Ryan Poles trying to drive up the cost of the #1 pick

When I say generational, I mean the unquestioned #1 overall.  Most recently Trevor Lawrence.  You could have offered the Jags the moon and they wouldn't have come off that pick.  Yes, there are a lot of intriguing prospects this year, but in most years (last year being an exception) there are usually a minimum of 2 up to 4 or 5 of these "high potential" QBs in every draft.

You proved my point in the bold section.  All really solid prospects, and it's been a mixed bag with arguably the higher picks having the worst results.  Mahommes was pick #10 (would have dropped out of the top 10  had KC not traded up for him, people for get that).  So this 'WE HAVE TO MOVE UP TO THE TOP THREE RIGHT NOW!' is nothing but impatience.  Yes, the organization feels it too, but they will be calculating.  The fans are just irrationally impatient.

This is an emotion vs. logic conflict-one side using logic that does not reinforce the emotional side--I think Jeremiah during the combine compared it to buying a lottery ticket.  Karl Marx wrote, "Religion is the opiate of the masses," meaning that people who are not happy with the here and now will find happiness and motivation through hope, whether or not it is practical or fantastical.   We are basically saying, "there is a 25 to 30 percent chance this works out, and if we are wrong, we are stuck in purgatory for another half decade trying to figure it out again.

Yup. Summed up perfectly, man.

I could not open it, for some reason, so I found this and provided a different link

Just go to #6 then.  The Lions are rolling with Goff.  That gets us ahead of Vegas and Atlanta.  It's only 250 trade value points.  We could give them one of our 2nds this year and some late picks in 2024.  Again, I want to stay put, but the less we give up the better.

If we're talking about risk, THAT would be the biggest risk a team could take in this draft. You have a young guy who has shown promise despite being surrounded by nothing. If you move him to take another QB you damn well better be right because if you draft a bust and Fields goes on to flourish elsewhere you're now officially the biggest jackass in sports.

You could also say that if Fields doesn't develop for Bears after they pass on one of the guys and that goes on to be a stud, well that would be bad. It would be much worse for them if after all that happened the would probably cut or trade Fields and he then goes on to win a SB for his next team. There's a lot of ways this can go wrong for the Bears. That's why they want all those picks.  They need have some options to get out of a serious mistake if the choose poorly.

If it goes poorly for them again this year with Fields, they're likely sitting in one of the top 2 spots with a plethora of picks to surround their new QB with offensive line talent and a couple new receiving weapons to boot.

But it will not be a good look to miss out twice in a qb. They may have the picks but who's making the call at that time may not be who decided to pass on one of these guys for Fields.  Just saying.

Anyone thinking the Bears dropping from #1 to #9 is ANYTHING less than 3 first rounders--bare minimum, is hooked up to the hopium tank.  Probably a 2nd or 3rd thrown in there too.

Even if the Bears manage a few more wins, with all that ammo, they can easily move back up to #1 if that team who holds it is willing to trade back.  This is Fields make or break year.  He either plays well enough to get that 5th year option door opened or the Bears are going to start planning for his exit and replacement.

The only thing worse than being a bad team is being a bad team with no future draft capital.

I hope to God we don't trade up. And if we do, I hope to God it isn't for the number 1 pick. And if it is, then I hope to God that our former NFL QBs at HC and QB coach know what the fug they're doing. Because if we lose 3 1st rounders on this pick, and we miss, we're in for a decade of obscurity.

The 49ers gave up 3 firsts for Lance and they’ve been in the NFC title game the last two seasons. Having a good coach and GM helps.

Oh I get it. It's also a bad look to the new drafted QB if they move on from Fields after 2 years considering what he's been given to work with. Stroud has already said he doesn't want to go to Chicago because of Fields. Poles is trying to maximize his take to see if Fields turns the corner this offseason. If he does, he's loaded with picks. If he doesn't, he's still loaded with picks and a very good chance to land a top QB in what many are saying is potentially a better class. Win-win IF Poles keeps his job.

If he keeps his job. It may sound great to us fans but to an owner?  It probably sounds more like hey, if we are wrong and have a losing season it's okay. Look what we have in our pockets to try again. He's thinking about why he is spending big money on these supposed experts when I can get any fan to do that sh!t.

Not a position I would want to be in if I didn't have 100% confidence in Fields. If I didn't, I'd be looking to QB at 1, even though I'm trying to sell that position. Hell, another offer could come in for Fields and he could come out smelling like a rose getting picks AND a QB he wants. But you can't sell that 1 for as much if other teams know Fields may not be your guy.
