Ryan Poles trying to drive up the cost of the #1 pick

Just looked it up and he's only been there since January of 22. Could make sense to sell the 1 this year and then load up for next year. He doesn't have any ties to Fields really and I think it could be sold to the owner that doing this could be short term pain for long term gain. If Fields turns the corner and becomes a franchise QB, they have their guy. If not, move on, draft the next one. The more I think about it, the more I think it's what I would do if I were in his position.

All of that's IF the owner is down for it. Poles got the job because the last guy got fired. I doubt he's afforded the opportunity to continue whatever got the last GM fired.

I imagine Atlanta and Vegas are going to be going after a top 3 pick as well as Carolina, so I am not sure you can say, "Move up to #6 and take the QB that falls to you."  This is so risky and bold-- but I have no doubt that Tepper is now pushing the panic button and they will make a very bold move.  In fact, I saw an interview (I think it was Good morning football--I am off this week--leave me alone about my life) and they said that everyone at the combine came away with the impression that the Panthers would be the most aggressive team. 

I fully expect us to lose three firsts, a second to move up.

I hate this and I can totally see it happening.  We've put together an outstanding coaching staff but are going to squander it by mortgaging our future paying way to much to move up for a less than elite prospect.  It's going to happen.

That's the kind of package I'd put together for an established franchise QB, not a rookie.

People don’t trade established franchise QBs. They develop them as rookies after the draft.

Tepper approved some good moves in terms of coaching staff hires, and hasn't done anything monumentally stupid in a few months. He's overdue.

That wasn’t swinging for the fences. That was a first time owner running a poor search with a GM who didn’t want to get fired, and both have an affinity for balls dipped in sauce.
