one thing that always gets me is looking at games as a face off between two QBs. it's never that. it's QB vs. a defense. that's it.

QBs can't win games if their defense can't stop the other team from scoring. you've got to make sure you have 2 things... 1) a QB that can generate a lot of scores and 2) a defense that can keep the other QB from scoring more than what your QB can generate.

the more your QB is capable of scoring, the better off you are. the more your defense is able to shut down the other QB, the better off you are. if you have both of these, you're going to win a championship.

Yeah example number 1 will always be (for me) Dan Marino not winning a Super Bowl.

There will always be that person(s) who will put that on Marino and try to take away from what he did.

Then there are those who know it’s not that simple.

The Raiders defense being historically the worst ever, isn’t an endorsement of Carr.

It means the Raiders suck and should be laughed at.

For sure the Raiders are a mess and have been for years. But there's a good chance they come away looking better at QB than us when it's all said and done even if it's a small upgrade. We laughed at the Jets and took Sam off their hands. Their QB room looked better than ours. We laughed at the Browns and took Baker off their hands. We lost to them led by Jacoby Brissett. At some point we have to learn some level of a lesson from these swings we keep making.

I doubt Carr would except anything less than a multi-year deal as the guy for the next five or so years.

Again, just speculation on my part here, Verge...  but, I was saying this under the guise of us giving him 2, maybe 3 years max.  I think his decision with us is going to hinge on if he's willing to accept that here.  It's likely NO or NYJ would give him 5 years.

Carr is looking for a team to compete with for a championship.  This means, stop arguing his contract, if he wants to be here,  and the front office wants him to be here. He will absolutely be here.

I know in today's NFL where the rookies just play because of stupidity is the norm.  Nevermind that it's just better to have a vet that can not just lead, but win now, while the drafted QB, rides the pine.

For what Tepper, and this coaching staff was hired for - ie, sustained winning every season - then you folks better get use to the idea of the team doing something you may not care for.

    • KC has a very good defense this year. It is 5th overall. Yes, still worse than last year, but their offense is considerably worse. Their passing D may be their "weakness" but they still allow fewer than 20 ppg. BY completed several deep passes yesterday, and he was able to threaten downfield in ways he didn't seem capable of before the benching. I'm not necessarily worried about his ability to connect deep anymore. What to me was impressive was that he did all this without a run game. We used the pass to set up what little running success we had. Wild.
    • Solid and fair assessment.   I will say, one of the big things I noticed yesterday was that he wasn't shy to step up into the pocket in the face of pressure.  He's trusting the IOL.  And they took care of Chris Jones yesterday.  We had clean pockets but also good success rate vs. pressure which just hasn't been the case with Bryce.   If he has more confidence the OL gets it done and he can navigate and step up for throws, that's huge.  It's one of the biggest things that's held him back.  He was previously bailing quickly and just too easily throwing away or making dead plays.     He was finding his 2nd to 3rd reads within structure/without bailing in the pocket.  That was nice to see, as much concern I have with him.  And the overall limitations will always be there. Time to back it up this week against the Bucs.
    • Suddenly the Cowgirls look like our best chance for a win remaining. I think the Bucs are playing better than the Falcons of late.  Our lone game versus the dirty birds is in the ATL where we always struggle.  The Cardinals are marginally better than I thought they would be. We are not beating the Eagles, they are starting to roll. I'm saying two at most, next week at home versus the Bucs and the Cowgirls.
