DARNOLD

We shall see. The last game probably screwed him, even though the numbers don’t tell the whole story. Saints D was balling out, and he made several plays to eliminate bad plays (escaping the pocket/throwing the ball away).

Even one of the picks was actually a good decision and would have been a great throw if it was 6 inches further downfield.

The games before that, I thought he showed a lot of growth and maturity in his decision making.

In the end the mantra I’m telling myself is “trust the staff” even if that ends up being Darnold as a bridge.

I've always said Sam's issues are between his ears. My hope while he was a Panther is that maybe the coaches could find a way to help him process the field better. If he's brought back, that will be my hope again. Some guys process information very differently than others. If I try to disect a water system using a board or 2D map, I struggle. Give me an overlay with a few key points, and my mind will draw in the rest. Same information, different ways to get there.

You cannot say Darnold is on the level of Goff.  Talent wise, sure...but Goff's production blows Darnold's out of the water.  He definitely showed improvement last season but he hasn't had anywhere near a full season of competent QB play and Goff has had several, with two different coaching staffs.

YOU MISSED THE WHOLE F'ING POINT OF MY POST.

Darnold has played for ADAM GASE, JOE BRADY, PORN STACHE, and MATT RHULE.

Jared Goff has played for SEAN MCVAY and f'ing BEN JOHNSON.

Don't ever compare the production of Goff and Darnold again. One has had quite literally elite, potentially Hall of Fame quality, coaching while the other has had coaches who are either out of the league or demoted three levels below where they were.

I'll say this - Sam the past year was not the same as Sam his previous 3 seasons. He looked much better at the end of the year (minus the saints game) than he ever has before. He was actually playing really well. The picks he threw weren't the wrong reads, just not pinpoint throws.

If, and this is a big IF, Frank Reich and co think that they can get the most out of Darnold WHILE STILL DRAFTING A QB, I'm all for brining Sam back as the vet bridge option until the rookie is ready.

If nothing else, Sam's good people, and you always root for good people to succeed.

Sam Darnold is ready to join the ranks of Blake Bortles, Joey Harrington, Akili Smith, and Ryan Leaf.  Those top tier QBs need a lot more than good coaching to succeed in the NFL.

Darnold would struggle in any other league and easily be replaced by QBs who went undrafted for the NFL. Maybe he can be Paxton Lynch's backup.

I'm honestly not opposed to the sign Darnold as a bridge/backup and draft Anthony Richardson plan. Hell, I think I typed out a relatively lengthy post a couple weeks ago advocating that plan.

I think we will get an impression about what teams are thinking about AR today. So far I'm not seeing the love for AR that is being shown on here.  Speculation I've noticed so far is that the Ravens may take him at 19 but he's not being projected to go in the top 10 yet.

We all know Darnold is only good for 4ish games before he regresses, happened last year as well as 2021. A suitable backup but I think he would make a terrible bridge QB. He can’t play all 17 games. He just can’t. Bad Darnold will come out.
If Reich wants to try to make the playoffs in 2023 Darnold can’t be a bridge.  At the most a backup to the rookie, who will be the backup to the actual bridge QB.
Yeah, I’d rather the rookie, or Corral, play than Sam Darnold if the Bridge got hurt.

I'll trust this staff.  If we sit patiently and take a QB, I'm fine with Sam here pencilled in as the starter at a decent price.

I'm not off the Carr wagon if he's willing to sign either short term, or middle of the pack starter money, if not, see ya.

Sam, Corral, Levis/AR in the room with Caldwell, Reich, Brown and McCown would be fine.  Not ideal, but we are building, not built.

I actually like Sam a lot, he's been through hell as an NFL player, and just keeps saying and doing the right things.  Would love to see him put it together ala Tannehill, but that's a TALL ask.

I don’t think you and me were watching the same games. Darnold did not look better. He was obviously being held in check because the coaching staff knew he was a liability.
Tons of checkdowns and running so he did have to process much. Just his first read and go.
The coaching staff tried to limit Darnold as much as they could.
Then the Tampa and Saints games happened and the real Darnold was should.
People need to let Darnold go he is a bad QB. That is proven. That is fact.

We know he regresses when he doesn't have a creative play caller or a decently designed offense...like most QB's out there in that situation.

What we don't know yet, is how he would fare under a well designed offense with creative caller.

Not saying that he can, but I'm not going to blame him getting figured out solely on him.

It is amazing bad players continue to have fans despite the overwhelming proof they are bad.

That is a pitiful excuse. The type of offense means nothing. Any offense he runs will he hampered by him.
He is a bad QB. B.A.D.
But you Darnold stans still think he is good for some damn reason.
Also, Tannehill sucks.

Apparently you don't understand what the word excuse means.

Nor do you have good reading comprehension.

I certainly don't know what a stan is, and am fine with that.

Tannehill does not suck, he's better than any QB we've fielded in about 8 seasons.

    • At this rate, maybe he'll be a decent 8-9 QB on his 3rd HC by year 6. Standards are so low around here now. Tepper has done some serious damage to the fan base.
