Jones is a tag possibility.

Funny to remember that this time last year Jones looked like a middling quarterback at best. Daboll really helped him resurrect his career.

And for that, he gets this 😕

Jones played well last year, but $45mil/year? That’s crazy…. It’s crazy that Murray, Wilson, and Prescott get paid that much too, so I’m sure he’ll get it.

Looks like a good candidate for the tag. He's not worth it. One good season doesn't make him a 45 mil per qb.

His stats weren’t that impressive and he was really helped by Barkley staying healthy.
That playoff game was impressive but the game after it was not.
45 million for a QB that threw 15 TDs in 2022 and was very meh the years prior.
If Barkley gets injured again, and he will, Jones can’t carry the team.
This is really stupid in Jones’ part. He should take whatever the Giants give him and be happy.
45 million is money for a QB that doesn't need a healthy RB to win.

If I was the Giants I would be laughing at him when he said that is what he wanted. His supposed “best” season wasn’t all that great anyway.
15 TD last season, 15. Also Barkley being healthy definitely helped mask Jones’ problems and Jones’ can’t win without Barkley.

It has been less than 30 years (1994) since the NFL salary cap was instituted.  That year's cap?  34.6 million.  Another year or so and NFL teams won't be able to secure the services of a middle of the pack QB for that amount.  Our society's priorities/values are way out of whack.

In fairness, prior to last season you would have a hard time finding many that didn't consider Wilson a top QB. That's a hindsight mistake.

It was a mistake in foresight to have paid Murray and Dak that money.

In today's money that would be about $70 mil.

But also consider the exponential rate of NFL TV revenue, which has gone up 623% from 1990 to 2020.

So, in reality the cap just matches the insane money they make. Goodell set a goal to have league revenue at $27 billion by 2027.

The ludicrous dollars being paid to QB's these days is 100% the fault of the competition committee.  Their insistence on continually changing the rules to favor higher and higher scoring games brought this on.  Gone are the days when you could build a great defense and have an offense simply take the chances presented by that defense.  We'll never see SB's where guys like Brad Johnson, Joe Flacco, Trent Dilfer, Jim McMahon, etc lead their teams to a title.

In order to lower the QB salary range, you've got to make defense a real possibility for building a championship team.
