Interesting twist regarding Lamar Jackson...

Talent is obviously tantalizing but hell no to a fully guaranteed contract. Deshaun's contract is going to ruin the Browns if it didn't already.

Once durability starts going the wrong direction it never reverses.  Injury prone athletes don’t get durable all of sudden.

On that note, glad McCaffrey was able to play this postseason but I figured him playing the entire stretch was a 50/50 proposition.

This may well be one of those times, or it might not. The cost of it being one of those times far, far outweighs the rewards right now. 

If he were truly life-changing and perfectly healthy, the team that has built its entire offense around him and made its entire coaching plan based on getting the most out of him would pony up whatever it took to make him happy and keep the ball rolling along.

They haven't succeeded in doing that yet. That should give us pause right there. Lamar is a great player, but his style of play requires a team built to suit his skill set, just like Cam Newton did in his day, too. Those teams are harder to build than one for a more traditional pocket passer. 

And they are very hard to build from scratch if one sixth or more of your salary cap is tied up in one guy's contract.

Cam got us to a SB playing that style and Lamar is a much different runner than Cam.

The sudden notion that Lamar Jackson doesn’t want a fully-guaranteed contract directly disputes the content of an important interview that NFL Players Association DeMaurice Smith recently had with The Pivot podcast. The entire premise of the conversation regarding guaranteed contracts was that the NFLPA is helping Lamar Jackson get a fully-guaranteed contract that will “bookend” (as Smith said it) the Watson deal, and in turn lay the foundation for other quarterbacks to secure fully-guaranteed deals, too.

There are three possible explanations for the recent report. One, the information provided to Smith is incorrect. Two, Jackson wants a fully-guaranteed contract, but is claiming otherwise for P.R. reasons. Three, Jackson has changed his mind about wanting a fully-guaranteed contract.

If the last point is the truth, then maybe he and the Ravens will work out a long-term deal before March 7, the deadline for applying the franchise tag. If not, and if the Ravens choose to use the non-exclusive tag, maybe another team will sign him to an offer sheet that isn’t fully guaranteed — and maybe the Ravens will match it.

Regardless, it’s important to note that this claim Jackson never wanted a fully-guaranteed contract cuts against everything that everyone was led to believe for months, up to and including the things that the head of the union publicly said, just last month.

This is what happens when you let your mom negotiate a quarter billion dollar contract. He should have looked at what happened with Josh Norman to see how letting unexperienced family negotiating works out for you.

Jackson needs to hire an agent, BIG TIME. 

You can get by without one of those scum suckers in the draft, just have an NFL lawyer review the contract. Plus not for nothing if youre some 5 million type of player as well....BUT HUGE 100 milllion+ type of deals, you need a brass balled shark on your side. 

I know lamar reads the huddle, so lamar "Get you a shark agent to even the playing field".....

He took his mom to the negotiating table with a franchise Baltimore that is not known for paying big money to their players.

 

It is reported they offered him 133 mil guaranteed and they aren't willing to go any higher than that number.

 

Lamar is stuck until he gets an agent.
