Matt Moore is the future...

That deep ball, he put it right between the S and CB, only where Smith could catch it. Right into his arms

If he was one on one then it would be a good argument he should lead him some. But he wasn't

watch it again. smith was running a go route down the right side of the field. by the time the ball was being released smith was a step directly ahead of the defender, still moving straight forward, down the sideline. by the time the ball reached the highest point in its arc smith was two steps ahead of the CB, and the safety was a good ten yards to the left of him, and behind a little. with smith's speed, a ball placed in a position where he could've kept going down the sideline in his original route would've put him in the endzone. instead, he had to do a MAJOR lateral adjustment to make the catch, allowing the cornerback and safety to catch up to him and make the tackle.

again - delhomme would likely have screwed up too. but anyone who looks at that pass from an unbiased perspective will see that it was very clearly off.

God! I just hate QBs that can't throw perfect 50 yard strikes every time. Even though Smith caught it and had space to run for another 15 yards, that throw sucks because it wasn't exactly where I imagined it should have been! Thats why I would trade for Jason Campbell immediately! I mean, he only under-threw a wide open Moss once today! He would do so well in our system.

Um, obviously it wasn't off seeing as he COMPLETED the pass. He played a good game for someone who hasn't had a start in 2 years, of course he won't be completely in sync with the starting offense. He just needs more experience.

...of the 2009 season.

not good enough to carry the team next year though. he played decent today, but his deep balls were as bad as Delhomme's. the late pass to Smitty was horrible, about 10 feet too far to the left. if Smitty doesn't make that adjustment - or the safety's in position - that's an incompletion or interception. also missed a wide-open smith in the endzone for what would've been an easy touchdown. significantly underthrew moose on a deep ball when he was open.

Moore is good, and at this point he is better than Jake, and should be kept as the starter until the end of the season. But there is absolutely no way the Panthers can depend on him as the future starting quarterback.

Really that's not a fair assessment because the play calling was handicapping him and not letting him get into a rhythm. Plus he prob had first game jitters. Im sure he is not gonna look all that great at NE but hey he needs to take his lumps and he has a good release and his touch is very good on short routes.

Maybe. 1st off, he's not that much of an experienced QB. His first start in 2 seasons. He hasn't developed the chemistry with receivers and get into rhythm like that. If he woulda been our starter since week 2 or something then I can understand

He coulda threw deeper towards the sideline because the safety was on his left side, and maybe he woulda caught it or not. We coulda had a review situation right there

But the fact is, he threw it at the right spot. Smith didn't stop and catch. And he didnt have to compete for it. All he had to do was slow down, and still had enough lead way to run for some more yards

Moore has better accuracy on his long throws, and better mobility. That alone is enough for an improvement.

He could def manage a game at this point. Really if we had a Deep threat besides Smith he would have had more chances today.

get off my nuts, i didn't say he did a bad job, if you read the original post you'll realize i'm saying Moore should start for the rest of the season. my whole point is we need a quarterback who can make those types of throws. delhomme and moore cannot.

read the above and get off my nuts while you're at it. and are you REALLY saying that a pass can't be "off" if it's completed?

I do agree with the playcalling part. I think we'll have a much better assessment of Moore after the Patriots game. If the Pats have any semblance of an offense, we'll be playing catch-up for at least part of the game... and as such we'll probably see a few more passes.

I think you are vastly overstating the adjustment made and giving little credit where it belongs - he put it in a place the receiver could easily make the catch, and that is a good throw. Could it have been better? Sure. But I think very few qbs in this league will make that throw much better on a consistent basis. It was just one throw, though. We'll see how he plays the rest of the way.

PhillyB, you should stick with the creative name-editing thing youve got going on...it makes alot more sense than your posts thus far, and that's not saying much.

Moore did an adequate job and took what was given to him. The bottom line is he completed the pass to Smith and yes, granted it was not a touchdown it was still a good pass never the less. What, were you expecting Peyton Manning?

i wasn't expecting peyton manning, and i got what i expected: a backup quarterback. for a backup quarterback, matt moore played well.

carolina needs better than a backup quarterback.

that is the entire point of this thread.

Here is how I see this. There are the "Draft a QB" Fans, You could put John Elway out there and these fans are going to say he sucked or was Alright but not good enough. They want to justify a drafted QB. As if the Rook is going to come in and be the Savior. There is no guarantee that he will do that.

Then there are the "He's not the answer but will be ok to finish the season" Fans. They don't care where the next QB comes from as long as it isn't Moore or Jake.

Then there are the ones like me that see it for what can be. The guy was 14-20 that's 70%. You could see the reins were on pretty tight. I had to follow it online and could tell this. This is his 1st game in 2 yrs. So he was a little rusty, maybe a little anxious.

You guys that expected to see 25-30 350 4td 0 int need to stop dreaming. We don't need those kind of numbers. Would we like a bit more from the passing game. Yes. But our QB is never gonna lead the league in passing att. and yds. NEVER.

Cut the man some slack and view him as our next starting QB.

I do believe we need to get an Offensive Coordinator with an imagination. I sit a watch other team do things we should be able to do but yet our OC seems to be stuck in the 60's. Either that or Fox has such a grip on the offense that Davidson can't do anything.

I believe the former more that the latter.

Go Panthers

Then by all means Nostradamus, I am obviously missing something. Tell me who would be better and how would we acquire this said "better quarterback"?
