Did Godfrey start today?

First off there are alot fewer times where Fox would bench for someone behind them. Why? Because the majority of the time the player behind them is worse. As is for most teams

Okay lemme put this one out there for you:

Gary Barnidge

He is the most talented receiving TE we have on the team, has pretty much caught everything that has come his way, averages over 20ypc and to top it off he's a decent blocker. Now how in the world does someone who has as much talent as Barnidge not see more action?

Stuff that goes on that isn't seen by fans? Locker room stuff, etc.

Just throwing it out there; I don't believe it's true, just saying that there could be other factors (work ethic, even) that are determining it. Same with Moore.

CRA, shut up and grow up. Stop trying to blame literally everything on Fox.

After every game, practice of news article you come on here moaning about how Fox is clueless and is trying to sabotage the rest of the season, just he is proven right. It's getting old now, so please just give it a rest. You would do well to find someone who is still in support of Fox, so you do not need to convince many people. What the rest of us are able to do though, is to actually look objectively at the facts rather than blowing up over something so small and trivial like you do every other day.

Here are the facts.

There was not one pre-game report of Martin being benched.

Martin started over Godfrey last week.

Martin was shown as starting by the TV depth charts.

The commentators started off talking about him starting.

Martin got smacked on the kickoff return by lowering his head into two on rushing players.

He was visibly shaken up after that.

In fact there is absolutely NO evidence that Martin was benched. There was a TON of evidence to suggest a concusion or something that held him out. On the flip-side, why can't you just admit that Godfrey played well in relief of Martin? Most of us applaud players who have good games, you seem to only want players you prefer to play well. It's pretty sad and it's pretty pathetic.

The play on Winslow was quality. He had perfect position on him and just waited for Winslow to move his arms to catch the ball and THEN he reacted incredibly quickly. If that were Marshall of Captain, they would have been drapped all over Winslow's back and a PI call would have been made. Frankly I felt Godfrey made several man coverage plays today and I do not recall him playing as much man as he had done today.

So in summary. Grow up, give Godfrey credit, stop being such a prick about Fox. This was out of his hands due to an injury.

No thanks. I am not flip flopping week to week. I only complain about 3 things mostly. Jake, Godfrey, and Fox. I praise PLENTY of people on this team....but being a Panther fan doesn't mean I can't be critical....and I will be of those 3 b/c they deserve it.

you said a lot of nothing. Facts are facts and Godfrey is the starter again in Carolina. I acknowledged Godfrey played better than normal but he still sucked...getting an easy pick doesn't make up for the fact he was out of position and late most of the game Sunday. Some people have a hard time with reality. Martin is the backup . Godfrey started and was given his position back after one game of using both. That is why Godfrey played EVERY down before the hit Martin took.

I made the analogy before.....fans are acting like they did w/ Jake following the Atlanta win. Thinking one average at best game against a bad opponent some how makes someone not suck.

Why don't you act like a big boy and understand people use this board to express different opinions. I disagree with people......I can handle that. I am at least consistant with my opinions. I don't need to tell people to shut up b/c I have a different view. Sounds like you are the one who needs to grow up.

Martin got hit on their first kick return, which was after our opening drive TD. He COULDN'T have taken the field before he got hit, as that was before our first defensive series.

The commentators were specifically talking about him being the starter, before and during our TD drive and then when he got hit. Fox had already stated that whilst Godfrey will see the field a lot, it is Martin who is the primary FS.

The depth chart on NFL.com reported him as starter before the game and still list him there.

Martin has had his share of problems back there as well. So despite him being more effective at safety than Martin, the difference is not night and day. I challenge you to find any safety bar Reed and Polamalu who are in position every play, a feat even those two do not achieve. The simple fact is that whilst he may have been out of position on a few plays, he also was in the right place at the right time on several others.

I love how you chalk Martin's interceptions to talent and Godfreys being an 'easy pick'. News flash, all of Martin's picks thus far have been errant throws which he has been in the right place for, just like Godfrey was yesterday.

Is Godfrey better? No, but he has his uses. I thought his man coverage was pretty good and he came in support of the run very effectively. I personally believe Martin should remain the starter, but if he did get a concussion, he will likely be out this week and Godfrey will likely remain starting for the rest of the season.

Sadly, I agree. We all know how Fox works. I mean...why the heck was Martin on special teams anyway?

Martin took the hit on the 2nd kick return. Godfrey played every down prior.

the depth chart on the Panther website lists Martin as the backup.

also, the S play is night and day between the two. I have acknowledge Martin has cashed in on poor throws and made the most of some gifts also.......what makes Martin so much better is ability to be where he needs to be which prevents a lot from even occuring and his ability to come up and tackle......and there is no way Godfrey would have made that one pick against AZ (not the tipped ball one but the other). He would have never gotten into position....and would have been late coming over to help just like always. When a player like Marshall is struggling.....it only makes matter worse when the S can never be where he is suppose to be (just like w/ Lucas). Martin can get there.

Marshall isn't struggling on the season. Someone posted stats of QB ratings against him. QB ratings against Marshall were in the 40's. QB ratings against Gamble was in the 100's.

Just a quick note, on Beason's second (I think) pick Godfrey was right behind him and he would have easily batted it down, if not intercepted it. I really don't understand why the coaches don't give him another chance at corner facts:

Martin is a better hitter

Martin has better instincts at the safety position

Godfrey is quick and not as good of a hitter

Tell him to guard one man and that's it!

Our corners right now are so spotty its insane

Martin was listed as the starter on the TV screen. That's all I have to go by because I did not see who was on the field on the first play. I do know Martin took a pretty good shot on the early KO. Guess we'll find out who's right soon enough.

yeah, I don't blow Godfrey off completely...he has talent. He just isn't a S and that has been obvious since last season. Martin is a S and it was pretty obvious every game. The moment he got healthy he should have started taking reps a CB....

also worth noting that Fox acknowledged there were only two injuries from that game-- Diggs and Brayton.

So again, Godrey started, played every snap before this so called "hit" and every one after. Martin was also not hurt in the game.......

Fox gave Godfrey the job back. Fox is in fact, a complete idiot. I think that pretty much ends the conspiracy talk that Martin still has a shot at the job he clearly deserves. Man, Fox gets dumber every week.

Maybe because he's good at it? Who knows? Maybe because Captain was out with a concussion?

If I remember correctly, Martin was hurt in the previous game and therefore may have been limited in practice last week. If Godfrey had most of the 1st team practice because of that, it only makes sense that he would start. Even with limited practice though, Martin still would've been okay to play ST's because it's not that complicated. idk
