Did Godfrey start today?

One reporter gave his opnion in a sentence that he wouldnt see why Godfry wouldnt be the starter.

No, Godfrey was the starting S today and got his first start since being injured. That isn't an opinion. His opinion was it was the right move.

Godfrey got hurt. Got healthy. Fox went one game using both....and then gave Godfrey his job back.

Fox's flaw is when commits to players(rookies, vets, and everything inbetween)....once he commits to a player he sticks with them. Fox committed to making Godfrey work last year......he will stick with him. He won't make a change midseason once he commits/invest in a player heading into a season unless injury forces him. That is his flaw. It isn't so much about being a vet......it is about Fox buying into a player.....and once he does he doesn't see clearly.

Jake and Godfrey are just examples of him doing it this season......despite it being pretty clear now Fox is wrong.....and by the end of the season him sticking w/ both will prove to be huge mistakes.

Name seven different occansions for Fox where the player behind was obviously better to start and Fox didnt switch to him during that seaosn.. You very well could be right, but Id like to see quite a few examples before I say it's a big flaw.

You said the observer said he got it back. It did not. It said in his opinion he should.

Fox started Godfry and then Martin got injured, so how do you know he wasnt planning on using both?

He was the starter wasn't he? Martin wasn't mixed in was he?

It was obvious what was going to happen....and it did. We all knew Godfrey would get his job back and only hoped he wouldn't. No point arguing it....just watch the rest of the season. There was no point "using both" last week...it was the only way Fox could get Godfrey back in as the starter with catching too much heat.

No point. You don't acknowledge Jake/Moore and Godfrey/Martin this year......why would you look back and agree with anything. Fox has commited/invested in lots of guys who should have been benched or cut or not brought back.

If fox cared so much about heat, why would he switch back to Godfry? Why keep delhomme in?

If you want to argue he was simply wrong, then thats easier to debate. But to say he's doing because he scared of "heat", or Godfry is just one of "his guys" is alot harder to prove on your part. Maybe he just actually believes what he is doing gives him the best way to win?

Investing in guys who turn out bad is a different situation from having an obvious better player sitting on the bench behind another and not switching during the season.

As for Jake and Moore: Ive already said switching to Moore at this part of the season was the right call in my opinon. I don't think it simple black and white though.

Im open minded, if there enough instances to go with you opinion then I might look at it in a diffeent light.

Fox doesn't get heat. Sure, he gets some on the message board. Overall...for an NFL coach...he gets very little. It was night and day the difference between Godfrey/Martin....Fox knew he couldn't just magically give the job back without having to answer questions.....that is why he went one game "splitting" the job before giving it back to Godfrey. Fox knows what he can and can't get away with.....that is why Jake never got benched.

And if he didnt do his switching move, what big thing would happen that he wants to avoid? People asking questions? When has that stopped him before?

A couple of things. Sherrod got hurt on specail teams before the defense even took the field. And Harris played Marshall's side most of the game, so don't be so quick blaming Godfrey for all of those catches. And they were well thrown, and well caught catches.

I'm talking about committing to guys despite them playing poorly and past there prime.....with better options on your team or easily avaliable.

I have given you two examples this year.....give me one example in Fox's career where he benched an actual starter for a more productive player in his career in Carolina. There isn't a coach that has that kind of tenure with a team that hasn't done so during at least ONE season before......it is called coaching. Fox has blind loyalty and injury is the only way Fox will shake up a depth chart.

First off there are alot fewer times where Fox would bench for someone behind them. Why? Because the majority of the time the player behind them is worse. As is for most teams.

However: On the top of my head

Delhomme

In 05 Foster over Davis midway through the season.

injury. Davis got hurt in 04 and knee injuries in 05. Fox hasn't done it without injury being the reaosn.

Davis starting out getting majority of carries till week 11 with Foster a few. Then week 11 foster is getting majority of carries with Davis a few.

Fox switched to Foster midway threw the season over Davis.
