Clarification...

Biggest thing I get from that is that the story is of the Raiders not wanting some huge haul in return is probably true. Carr also has a no trade cause so he has to agree to any trade.

It's basically a lesser version of the whole Deshaun Watson thing.

I think people are underestimating him. Who are the top QB's in the league right now today?

Mahomes, Burrow, Allen, Jackson, Herbert, Rodgers. After that, maybe Prescott, Watson?, Stafford, Hurts? Then it gets muddy real fast. Can you put Wilson, Cousins, Murray over Carr? Idk. Carr is top 15 in the league, possibly top 10, top 12 depending on your feelings. He's certainly good enough to make a team a contender if the rest of the team is put together. Probably won't win a Super Bowl, but can turn the Saints into a 12 win team. To me Carr with the Saints is about equal to Cousins and the Vikings. Good enough to be a problem.

The rest of their team and coaching staff isn't though.

If this trade goes thru, the Saints probably become the division favorite.  Their defense is still very good, but the offense was anemic, and had a lot of interceptions given that they didn't throw it as much as most teams.  If Carr gets them to just an average passing attack, they become the division favorite.

At some point they are going to have to blow it all up.  Why not now?  I get there's a staff trying to keep their jobs, but as an organization--GM, owners, they have to realize this is unsustainable.  Restructures are fine if BOTH parties agree, but it's going to be tough to get that many players to take a pay cut or push their money out several years.  If they are committed to that staff, they say "look, we have to clear our books and it will be a tough couple of years, but we will stick by you as we get though this."

The thing with the Saints is that they are in win now mode. They have the receivers, offensive line, and defense to make a run. Their problem is that they have Dennis Allen as a head coach. It doesn't matter who the QB is as long as he's running that team and I relish in that reality.

I like Carr personally. He's an enthusiastic dude who truly loves football and the people he plays with. His passion, outwardly, is unmatched by any QB in the game right now. He has some deficiencies but we saw his potential with Gruden and if the Saints can tap into that they have an opportunity to be really proehlific on offense.

okay, they win the division and go nowhere in the playoffs.  Meanwhile the rest of the division is getting younger and flush with cap money.  Again, this idea that they are contenders is crazy.  The only thing I can think of is they are letting these key defensive players in their prime play out their deals while keeping them in the thick of things.  They are trying their best to retool on the fly, but I don't see it working.

Yeah Cam Jordan is getting old, Kamara is not the same threat, they keep lucking out on WR's with Olave but otherwise they aren't a team anyone is scared of playing anymore. Especially since they are committed to letting Dennis Allen run the show apparently lol.
