He could've always stayed on the booth and tried again next year.

That was actually my expectation.

Felt like Denver went into full court press mode after they lost out in their other choices.

I understand why people don't like Wilson but the man proved many times that he can win football games.  If Payton can find anything under all that fakeness the broncos could jump back sooner than expected.  Odds aren't good and I'm rooting against it but get ready to hear all about it to start out season 2023.

Russell Wilson was so overrated and Denver is going to pay for making that move. Payton won’t change that.  I can see some serious infighting happening even as soon as next season

The next several years may not be a good time to be a Denver Bronco fan.

I don’t think the Wilson story is true. He’s stuck with Wilson for 3 years at a minimum. You don’t take the job if you can’t work with Wilson.

Look at the guaranteed money in Wilson's contract. You don't take that job unless you think you can fix him because you're stuck with him.

His ego is larger than Wilson's. He is arrogant enough to think he can fix him enough to win with him.  Also Denver is a much better organization than Arizona.  Payton makes bank either way.

I don't think Payton has his own personal team that follows him around everywhere - Wilson's ego is larger.

From the article...

For most people, there’s a sharp difference between things they’ll say publicly, and the things they’ll say privately.

Terry Bradshaw is not most people.

...

During Fox’s pre-Super Bowl media availability, Vic Lombardi of Altitude Sports Radio in Denver asked Bradshaw a series of questions about his soon-to-be-former Fox colleague, who is now the head coach of the Broncos.

“We hung with him,” Bradshaw said, establishing a clear foundation for his basis of knowledge about Payton’s preferences. “We would talk, and he would talk and talk and talk.”

And then it slowly started to get more and more interesting.

...

“I’d say, ‘You can’t go to Charlotte,'” Bradshaw said. “That’s the NFC South.'”

OK, fine. Makes sense. No controversy there.

“You can’t go to Houston,” Bradshaw said. “They don’t have a quarterback down there. And you don’t want to be in Houston.”

...

But then it got good. Bradshaw was asked about Payton coaching the Cardinals and quarterback Kyler Murray.

“He didn’t want to work with that quarterback,” Bradshaw said.

And then Lombardi swooped in for the hammer: “He’d rather work with Russ?”

“I don’t think so,” Bradshaw said, bursting out a big ol’ Louisiana laugh. “But that’s all he’s got. He’s got no choice. But I’ll tell you one thing. He’ll get the most out of him.”

...

Payton truly has a no-lose situation. If Wilson works out, Payton is a hero for turning him around. If Wilson doesn’t work out, it’s not Payton’s fault. And then Payton gets a fresh start with a new quarterback.

Other than Kyler Murray, of course.

...

There’s a chance Payton is dismayed by Terry’s loose lips. There’s also a chance Payton is pleased that his message was communicated to the work in a way that seemed spontaneous and unintentional.

    • He can say what he feels, but he's not saying "the previous year, the team wasn't very good" he directly called his teammates out and in a way that is flat-out not true. "You are your record"? Oh ok, he's only had 3 winning seasons, but in my mind he isn't a loser, and I bet he isn't in his either - cause football is a team sport and wins and losses are on the team, even when one really bad player (Jimminy Pickles) can basically screw over everything.  And this comes on the heels of his thing about the MVP, which is fine, but also selfish. His teammates consistently went to bat for him... Just feels like he's more about himself.
    • Good point--I think this draft is great for us at this time--At the top of the draft, the DT (DEs/NTs in 3-4) are loaded.  The Edges are deep.  We need to double dip there--hoping to move back so we can add three players to that pool.  In free agency, if I were Morgan, I would focus on DBs and  ILB--fix the back end of the defense.  If he signed a S, CB, ILB, and TE, it would be cost effective.  In the draft, DE, Edge, and WR should be the priorities.  After that, OL Depth, QB depth, DB depth, RB depth.  My Free agent Targets:  TE: Juwan Johnson, Saints.  29, had over 500 yards with Saints. S: Julian Blackmon, Colts.  He will be one of the top free agents--gonna cost us, but not like an edge or WR. ILB: Tyrel Dodson, Dolphins.  80 tackles on just 854 snaps--under 27 years of age. CB: Mike Jackson, Carolina.  He is 28 and had 3 picks and was on the field at all times.  68 PFF score. NT:  best available for Evero's system.
