He's still mainly an unknown factor. Really wished we had seen more of him, the glimpses were really inspiring of optimism. Maybe a whole season and off season under a better strength and conditioning group would help immensely.

I think under Rhule the weight room became less important than the big meeting/indoctrination room. And we got pushed around a lot. A lot.

We will need an experienced NT in FA and draft one as well.  McCall has the size, but dude was an undrafted FA.  I wouldn't put too much stock into him.  Again, Anderson has played in both schemes, so it would make sense to re-sign him at least for a season while these guys adapt to the 3-4.  I don't doubt Brown can move to the outside, but it will take some time to get used to.

Any time you transition to a new defense, everyone is going to be an unknown factor. What we saw of Barno in his last 2 games was very encouraging, especially the final game of the year against the Saints where he had 3 tackles and sack. 

It just takes good coaches and systems to unleash the talent of our players...  this was Barno's RAS:

 

As I said before.... in Evero's system... I am really excited to see what he can do with Barno.

Honestly I think our personnel on the whole are a better fit for a 3-4 look than a 4-3 at the moment. I'm pretty excited to see what Evero can do with Burns.

The back 7 yes, but it made our thin DL that much thinner...like a complete overhaul with exception to Brown.

Fun for sure.  The reconstruction of this defense around Burns, Luvu, Chinn, & Horn is about to get great.  Opens up a lot of FA & prospect types we typically don't consider.  

Some early faves to check out:

Keanu Benton, Wisconsin, 6'4 315 0/1T

Karl Brooks, Bowling Green 6'4 300 1/3/5T - I have a feeling this guy is going to thrive.  He's got a motor, really stood out at the SB.

Byron Young, Tennessee, EDGE, 6'3 245

Felix Anudike-Uzomah, EDGE, 6'4 250 

Both EDGE dudes have been building some hype and could see them being available day 2/early 3.

We ran mostly 3 man fronts under Phil Snow. It only leaned 4 man heavy after Wilks took over.

The reason the team was seen as such a good fit for Evero, was the personnel.

And it’s been in flux since Rivera tried to half way switch from 4/3 to 3/4 anyways.

I disagree a bit, mainly I think the majority of our Edge Rushers are built to play much better in a 3-4 other than YGM. I agree that NT and depth on the three DL spots are a need but also those tend to be spots you can bring in serviceable players for reasonable deals. I would argue that Anderson and Brown make find Ends in the scheme, and there are some good NT available in FA this offseason that generally dont come that expensive.

So I feel like its just a trade from having small ends for a 4-3 to having to find a NT for a 3-4, and pass rushers are much harder to find generally.

Yes, but it was a hybrid system.  I want 3-4 players specifically for a 3-4 system, namely the DL.  I'm not all that worried about the DEs moving to OLBs and our OLBs moving to the inside.  That's just conceptual stuff and getting a ton of reps.  What we have currently for a DL in a 3-4 scheme is vastly lacking.

You can find serviceable space eater NTs for a 3-4 in FA and the draft fairly easily. Brown I think will do much better as a 3-4 DE than a 4-3 DT. Burns, Barno, Haynes are tailor made as 3-4 OLBs. As others mentioned, re-signing Anderson as a 3-4 DE makes sense as well. I think the personnel is much more suited to 3-4 than 4-3 on the whole. Need to rebuild DL depth and find a ballhawk FS, but besides that, think we're pretty decently set-up for the shift.

I disagree to an extent.  It creates more needs in some spots but it fills some too and puts a lot of our best defensive players and young players in a more natural position i.e. burns at olb.

I’m sure he looked at the players before signing and will adapt accordingly.
