A comparison of Moore's stats vs. Jake's average this season

Average stat line for Jake this season:

16 of 29 for 183 yards, 55.5% completion rate, .7 TDs, 1.6 picks, 59.4 rating, longest pass of the season: 52 yards

Moore's stat line:

14 of 20 for 161 yards, 70% completion rate, 0 TDs, 1 pick, 73.1 rating, longest pass: 66

Granted, Tampa Bay might be the worst team in the league, but Matt Moore today played slightly better than Jake has on average this season. His deep pass to 89 was the best pass play I've seen all season long. We'll see how he plays against New England.

Moore's new career record as a starter: 3-1!

A few things...

Moore's stats would be VERY different if this game didn't play out how it did. He was only asked to make 2 deep throws. One was dropped, the other was to Smitty... and we know how that went.

He missed a huge throw on one of the opening drives that really would have blown this game open from the start.

Fox's lack of confidence in him was painfully obvious all the time. How many 3rd down passes did Moore even attempt?

He did what he had to do to win this game. He did not look like the Franchise savior that many claimed he would be. He looked mediocre against a horrible team. However he has potential.

I would still not want to go into next year with Moore as our #1.

Yeah 3rd down and long and Fox elects to run? Like it's been said before, we're not just 1 QB away from being a contender. Fox needs to go too.

We DID find out that Moore is more than a competent backup quarterback though when there were throngs of posters on this site saying that he was garbage that would make Jake look like Brees. Resigning him next season to be the temporary starter while a rookie develops doesn't seem like a bad idea.

Fox's #1 priority was to win this game not to see how good Matt could be in pressure situations. In all honesty Fox and Co. played a good game with a relatively untested QB. One of the last things you really want to do is put him in pressure too early and having him crack. Make it easy for him and progress from there.

This was a good win from the point of view that Moore now has a little confidence which is key. He did not throw any TD's but he didn't lose the game for us either. Next week they will probably open it up just a tad more.

Whenever Moore started to get hot, it looked like they would take the ball out of his hands - playcalling was very strange. Not that they were setting him up for failure, but I was pretty frustrated we didn't get to see what he had.

I can't believe they allowed him to toss one deep to Smitty - that was nice. Should have gone back to him again though, let him finish off the drive.

EDIT: To above poster:

Yeah, though I feel like the ultraconservative play calling really does not win football games, it just prevents losses... and Moore didn't lose us the game by any stretch, so.

Moore looked okay today. He managed the game fine, but also was not given many opportunities. He did miss a couple of throws, and the int occurred on a pass he never should have thrown. Not to mention the fact that we were playing the Bucs. But he did show good poise at times, and even got other receivers involved in the game. It is a good starting point, and a good confidence gainer.

    • I think we’re evaluating them for depth. Pretty much every position on defense can use an upgrade
    • Nobody said he isn’t because BY got benched for a reason. But the discussion has always been if Bryce is “closing the gap” since he returned as a starter. Legitimate conversation don’t you think?
