Really excited for the possibility of Brian Johnson as the OC. Sounds like he was the target whether or not it was Wilks or Reich.

I wonder who they'll target for QB coach if they opt to move on from Sean Ryan.

From Schuyler Callahan (interviewing Scott Fitterer)

If Reich's plan with the coaching staff played a big part in the decision

"The first time through he laid out probably three or four deep at each position. And then we interviewed him about a week later and he went back and contacted coaches again and got more confirmation. Then even added to this list and said, hey, if we do this - what if we go to a passing specialist here...he went to a whole different level. Then just outside of just the coaching staff, it went to engagement, development, how to build a culture. So, there was like a second level of thinking."

Reich's progress in forming the coaching staff

"I know he's made a ton of calls. He laid out a plan for us in the interview process. Some teams are still playing and a lot of times you have to get a coordinator in place first to see how it all shakes out but those calls are being made non-stop. We're putting in slips left and right for coaches and we'll see where it goes. I know he's got a good plan. If option 'A' doesn't work out, option 'B' is just as good."

That's good for Wilks.

If Vic Fangio wants that job though, he'll probably get it.

Fangio to SF is all but a done deal.

Since the Rooney Rule applies to coordinators as well, I suspect the 49ers will be added to the Wilks lawsuit when Fangio is announced.

So, from the sounds of it...  I think Fangio is still the #1 preferred option at DC, but sounds like he's waiting on SF.

And then from that tweet Person (I think?) shared earlier, sounds like Brian Johnson is absolutely the guy at OC, they're just waiting until after the Super Bowl.

I really hope Fangio is still a possibility here, but if not, it will be interesting to see what we do there at DC.  My guess is his preference is 1. SF, 2. MIA, 3. CAR, and it's his call, which means with Ryans going to HOU, it will likely be SF.

    • We could easily pick apart yesterday’s game: dropped passes, blown coverages, bad tackling and red zone issues to name a few. But it was clear that this wasn’t the same team from earlier in the season. They fought back and hung with the champs until the end. That’s what I was excited to see and it gives me hope that we’re on the right track.
    • I think BY played well today and exceeded expectations. I will temper future expectations as he has to string together many games of consistent quality. One game doesn’t convince me that he is a franchise QB or even a guy you want to stick with for another season. One game doesn’t erase all the negative play and limitations from the past couple of years. I hope he balls out and continues to get better but for me the verdict is still out   That said, I think he gave the team and fans hope yesterday which is a lot more than what we had when we woke up Sunday morning.
    • He was vastly improved today and we need to see more of Bryce the rest of the season to continue evaluate him in order to decide what the heck to do with him at the end of the season. He must play at least like this and improve more from here the rest of the season in order for me to keep him. No more 123 yard passing games and want to see at least this output weekly from him. If this is Bruce improving slowly over time then Canales is even better with developing QB's than I thought he was but still too early to tell and we need to see him the rest of the way as he has at very least earned back the starting gig moving forward.
