Yeah, hopefully Reich learned from his Colts experience that you need to find your guy and commit to developing him. He had decent success with JAGs but that's a tough row to hoe.

Sometimes you get played for leverage to get what you want from where you really want to go (allegedly given he hasn't even signed that contract with Miami yet).

Look, Tepper has made more than his fair share of mistakes over his 5 years owning this team, but I don't think you can take everything that's gone wrong in Carolina and put it all at his feet and not give him any credit for things that do go according to plan.

I don't exactly consider Billy Marshall the sharpest knife in the drawer.

Pretty sure Zoom meetings were all we could do at the time Steichen was interviewed.

The podcast is kind of lazy in my opinion. Piling on Tepper is the in-style thing to do (he’s earned it in some regards), but these are a little much. I’ve interviewed people on Zoom over the last 3 years and I have eliminated some individuals from that process. No matter the medium, you can tell who’s prepared. Plus, it was all we could do at the time.

For sure - I understand football head coaching interviews isn't the same thing as hiring for a corporate role, but there's definitely parallels where you have a resume in front of you and think this person is a frontrunner for the role based on their experience, then they get in front of you and totally bomb the interview or come off unprepared. Not saying that's what happened with Steichen, but if for whatever reason the interview didn't go well, and you can't interview the guy again in person until 1/30 at the earliest, sometimes you have to make the decision on whether or not you want to give that person a second chance in person or pivot to someone who aced the interview. And yes, acing the interview isn't the only thing that matters, but for god's sake interviews exist for a reason. If it was just as easy as hiring the top coordinators from the top teams year in and year out, there wouldn't be any HCs that flame out.

Florida also has no income tax, so even if we offered him the exact same amount as Miami, he was still walking away with more money with them.

Yep. It’s part of the leagues rules with playoff teams now. We couldn’t have Steichen in another interview in person until yesterday.

I don't really get it. We could only interview him through Zoom until like yesterday. So we gave him the opportunity and he didn't nail it? What are they supposed to do, let other potential candidates sign elsewhere and HOPE that all of a sudden he does a complete 180 from his last meeting? If he didn't get it based on the interview he would have presumably had this week sometime we would probably have ended up with Wilks because Reich was going to get signed. I swear people can't think outside of their emotions.

      No, but considering that over a third (~35%) of their schedule are the other three teams in the NFC South and all three have strong starting (and back-up) RBs that the offense leans heavily on to open up the pass game. ATL: Bijan has this season and next season before the Falcons have to make a decision on his fifth-year option, Tyler Allgeier is a proven back-up RB that could start for some teams, and 2024 sixth-round selection Jase McClellan returns from a knee injury that sidelined him for the remainder of the season starting in early September. Combine that with their QB situation, and that's a team that is going to lean heavily on the run just like they did last season when they were 8th in the league in rushing attempts, 10th in rushing yards, 8th in rushing TDs, 9th in rushing attempts on 1st down, . NO: Similar situation as ATL, but for different reasons. Derek Carr is in the second to last year of his deal and the QBs behind him are Spencer Rattler, Jake Haener, and Ben DiNucci. However, they also have Alvin Kamara. One thing that we know about Kellen Moore from his stints as an OC is that he likes to lean heavily on a versatile RB1 while bringing in an arguably equally versatile RB2 to keep their foot on opposing defenses. When Moore had Zeke in Dallas, Zeke was 4th in the league in touches during those four years but Pollard still averaged 10 touches and nearly 60yds a game. Look for the Saints to shore up their RB room in the draft with Kendre Miller, CEH, Jordan Mims, and Xazavian Valladay all competing for touches behind Kamara. TB: Bucky Irving exploded onto the scene last season, but we can't forget more than capable (now-)RB2 Rachaad White. White is on the last year of his rookie deal, but Irving is under contract until 2028. Last season, the Bucs were 10th in rushing attempts, 4th in rushing yards, 3rd in YPC, 7th in carries of 20+, 8th in carries of 40+, and 7th in first down rushing attempts and that helped Baker Mayfield be one of the most efficient passers in the league with a 71.4% completion percentage (good enough for 2nd in the league).
