Huge assumption if you weren't in the interviews and heard what was being said. We have done a great job interviewing everyone and now are in the second round. Unlike the last time with Rhule it seems like we are doing a good job being thorough.

We can all agree, last time Dave Tepper tried to choose a head coach was a complete disaster.  I am happy to see that he has been more deliberate in his efforts this time around (and that Marty Hurney is no longer involved).

My assumption (and it is admittedly an assumption) of how the interview process has gone so far is based on my impressions of the remaining candidates, which I find less than encouraging.  However, for someone to conclude the opposite, that Dave Tepper is doing a great job in the interview process, is no less of a huge assumption.

Chances are, none of us will know if Dave got it right for at least another year or two.

The selection of candidates left standing is somewhat worrisome, especially considering those available to choose from only a few weeks ago.

It does bring into question the Panthers vetting process.

It brings in a lot of room for questions. Unfortunately we have to wait and hear what went on in the process but the candidates left standing are all weak ones IMO.

I don't think anyone knows if Tepper is doing a good job or not in interviewing but he is taking a more deliberate approach and apparently involving more people. But to assume he is screwing up because he didn't pick your favorite is way over the top. And FWIW Moore is not my first or second choice. But given I have no clue into the process, I am not throwing stone like many of you are with no more understanding than I have.

that has absolutely nothing to do with a supposed bad interview

sometimes you have to take a risk on a OC that has incredible results

And then sometimes you do take a risk with a guy like Rhule and the next time go for more of a sure thing. Of course if he goes with Moore he is taking a huge risk again.

These interviews go both ways.  Any potential candidate has to believe they'll succeed with Tepper and Fitterer as part of the equation.   That might be a hard sell for some, especially considering Tepper's track record so far.

A hard sell? Damn near impossible.

I mean you’re stuck with a GM Rhule hired (lol) who isn’t going to help really with anything other than paperwork.

And then your owner is probably now very reluctant to hand over ANY control because he is too stupid to understand it’s not control but who he picks to have it that is key.

Plus I bet Tepper meddles a lot more than I’d lead to believe. He is a losing owner. I can’t think of more than two franchise who have a worse record over the past 5 years combined.

Tepper doesn’t know how the NFL works, processes, guidelines and rules etc.

His one positive, if I assumed, would be money and going out and getting whoever the coaches wanted if possible.

But yea, damn near impossible sell and I can only imagine when these seasoned NFL up and comers go in there they can tell right away this is a poo show if it was already obvious with a GM that a Baylor coach hired standing there.

What is funny is that here is an article suggesting that Fitterer is a real positive to the hiring process as he is well respected around the league and can work with anyone

Tepper brings the money so salaries are no issue and unlike some teams we can sign whoever we can manipulate the salary cap.

Well, we might have to scratch Shane Steichen off the list for the Carolina Panthers.

On Wednesday, we learned of the team’s initial intentions for their second round of head coaching interviews. As of now, 2022’s interim head coach Steve Wilks, former Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich and Dallas Cowboys offensive coordinator Kellen Moore have all been given another look.

Buy Panthers Tickets

But notably absent from that bunch is Philadelphia Eagles offensive coordinator Shane Steichen, who has been viewed as one of the favorites for the job. Maybe this is why . . .

I understand that this will likely never happen but...

After the Eastland Mall fiasco and the Rock Hill fiasco...and Tepper and his wife are leading the interview process...What is the world would give anyone confidence these interviews are going well? Tepper's wife? Are you kidding.

This has all the markings of a Rankin Smith, Robert Irsay, Bill Bidwell, Ted Stepien, Donald Sterling and Daniel Snyder ownership group. An absolute cluster #$%^.

IF this guy Tepper was truly interested in winning, he would have found a "seasoned football guy" to run the show not his @#$%^&* wife. (I know she isn't running things but you get my point).

So, here's my question for those who know more about how the NFL works than do I: Is there any rule that would stop Tepper from hiring John Lynch away from the 49ers and giving him the title "President and General Manager"? That would be a promotion from what he is doing now. Right?

That's what Joe Robbie did in 1970 when he hired Don Shula away from the Colts. He gave Shula a great deal. It worked.

We're going to end up panthering....I mean, settling.

Towards the end of the coaching search, we pick things up with a recent conversation between Moore and fitt..

Fitt - " Ooo thats sad to here" {presses the smartphone}

mid-calm breathes......"suzan, get Steve wilks on the phone..."

Wilks " Sup porkchop neck "

Fitt- " Great news........."

You think I can't make a list 3 times as long with coordinators and other folks with no head coach experience who flamed out. Get serious......

I'm sure you can also make a list of previous head coaches for other teams who also never won much again.   That's most of them actually.  It's a crap shoot either way.  I would rather take the risk than low ceiling retreads.
