What his sources tho I believe Benjamin allbright when he says it's shane job to lose

When did Ben say this.

I really trust Ben.   But stuff changes.  It’s been known that Tepper has been enamored with these young OCs

Remember it was Ben Johnson’s to lose. Then he went back.

possibly one of those Coordinators he had a Feeling for and thought would be a front runner was Steichen.  Maybe that guy Didn’t interview well.  And now changes Teppers mind a little after sitting and talking with him.

I don’t believe any media. They are all full of $hit.

I mean, just look at the Watson saga last offseason. No one knew sh*t. One day it was the Panthers in the lead to land him. Then the next day it was the Saints in the lead. And then a team that wasn't even mentioned in the sweepstakes for weeks gets him out of the blue.

Yeah, the modern era of media is the rush to be first, regardless of the facts. So every unsubstantiated rumor or intentional information operation is just passed along with haste.

If he's the hire, I don't think they'll short him.

I understand politically why this would be the move.  I believe in the political motivation of being paid off of merit and not because of prejudice.

However, If I performed admirably at a job that I had to fill in for and they decided to give me a shot after I wasn't intended to be the hire, I would be under more scrutiny and there would be less guarantees.

Conversation may go like this.

"We're going to give you a shot at this because you performed over expectation on an interim basis.  We know what the statistics are on interim coach full time hires.  We want to protect ourselves if we see a decline in production.   We're going to give you an opportunity to make the playoffs this year and if that happens we will look at a long term extension, if not we may go another route.  Sound fair?"

I think it's fair to offer an unproven commodity a smaller deal when you are offering the opportunity of a lifetime to that person that they would otherwise not receive.  The reason I use the term "otherwise" is more of an observation on offensive coaches being hired rather then an aging defensive backs coaches.

I don't think Wilks has enough a body of work as a HC or DC to really warrant contention in a normal year.  Now he did a great job as an interim, which is why he may get the job, but it's very risky and if Steve stagnates this coming season we will need to let him go.  I want the team to have an exit strategy if Wilks is the hire and he doesn't perform.

I know it sucks waiting and speculating but I'm glad they're actually doing their due diligence this time around.

Gun to my head, it's coming down to Reich or Wilks.

And after this month long process of trying to find out who the HC is, I'll be content with whoever they choose, because it will be obvious that that person has a plan/good idea for a staff in mind.

i’m glad they are doing it like big boys this time. hiring at a top level of any org is about as big a move as you can make, so you’d better do your homework.

i have a feeling Wilks and Reich will be more like Foxball than not, but that’s just my speculation.

Somehow I let my blind fandom get me excited about hiring a new HC this cycle but the longer this goes on the more I realize that Tepper is the one making the hire and he's made wrong decision after wrong decision since he bought the team. As it sits right now I have no hope that he'll make the right decision, no matter who it is that we hire. This team will likely be a dumpster fire indefinitely, until someone can dig up some dirt on Tep and force him out like JR, Snyder, etc.

Latest from ESPN (paywall); nothing that hasn’t already been speculated IMO:

Fowler: It wouldn't surprise if Steve Wilks is a finalist, along with at least one offensive-coordinator candidate -- think along the lines of Buffalo's Ken Dorsey, Philadelphia's Shane Steichen or New York's Mike Kafka. People around the league are torn as to whether David Tepper will aggressively pursue Payton. Tepper is big on value, cost analysis and checks and balances. Giving up a bunch of picks for the right to pay a coach $20-plus million a year doesn't seem like his plan, especially coming off the failed Matt Rhule experiment. But Tepper is also very aggressive, and I found it interesting when the Panthers interviewed Kris Richard for defensive coordinator. Payton is known to be a fan of Richard from their days together in New Orleans. I was also told this week not to sleep on Frank Reich's candidacy. He interviewed well there.

Graziano: Yeah, I think Reich remains in the mix in Carolina, though the Panthers do seem to have a type in terms of this interview cycle -- the young offensive coordinator. They added the Cowboys' Kellen Moore to the list this week, and I do think Dorsey and Kafka remain on the radar. Wilks can't be ruled out, I don't think. The Panthers like him, and the team responded well to him as interim head coach in the second half of the season. But given how heavy the rest of their candidates list is on the offensive-minded types, it seems as if they might be inclined to go with one of them as they prioritize finally getting the quarterback situation right.

Yeah I expect Wilks to be on the hot seat coming in 2023 if he is hired.
He will likely gets a 3 year contract and be told he needs to make the playoffs this year.

    • We really haven’t seen him in the playoffs. In the 2-3 games he has played he looked good. But those sample sizes are so small. It’s Koochies goal now. Let’s rally behind him.
    • lol the weather man? I think he had some substance abuse issues going on but might be doing better.
