There’s also a rumor going around that Meier prefers Vegas and that if he were to sign an extension, it would only be with them.

If that’s true, it doesn’t make sense to give up the farm for 1.5 years of Meier (assuming the Canes would give him his $10M QO if they had acquired him).

Meier 100% going to NJ now. I STG, if this franchise makes another underwhelming trade like last TDL, I’m going to lose faith in the direction of the team. You cannot take all of these prospects and draft picks with you and we don’t have room for the majority of them as is. 
 

The EC was already a bloodbath. Toronto, Boston, NYR, and now NJD have all gotten better. Winning the division isn't guaranteed so playing the Rangers in the 1st round is a very real possibility. What are they doing.

Some speculation coming out that Carolina may have just been used by San Jose to drive up that cost and DW got tired of it. It was getting to the point where Carolina knew they didn’t have a chance but were being strung along to drive up the price on Meier.

Some posters on another message board said he was pissed at the game last night.

All speculation of course but it’s plausible.

Seravalli now reporting that the Canes will look to add multiple players now including a LHD.

I’ll wait til the deadline is over.

DW pulled Trocheck out of his ass a few years ago so let’s so I’ll wait and see what happens first.

I do think we need to fill our two open roster spots with forwards then ship off Coghlan for an upgrade on defense.

Yeah it’s a foregone conclusion a dman will miss time in the playoffs.
You cannot put Coghlan out there. 
 

I’m not going to freak out yet, but they do need to do something.

I also read an interesting thread on Reddit about significant TDL acquisitions and how they fared in the playoffs. It’s not good.

Two things can be true.

Maybe are offer wasn’t the best (or maybe it was)…

OR

Maybe the Grier brothers (one works for San Jose and one works for New Jersey) prefer to do business with each other. There’s a lot of personal connections between those two organizations and Meier also has some very close friends and countrymen on the Devils as well.

This could simply be a situation where Meier was not interested in Carolina.

Unless there is some team out there who hasn't shown their hand yet, I'd be very surprised if there's a trade out there that makes an overnight difference in the manner of Boston, NY and our other division rivals.

Timo is the belle of the ball for a reason...

But Schmaltz is certainly no slouch by any means. Not nearly as good on special teams, slightly better at even strength though. Much better defensive forward, which fits Rod's mentality. 

He is another right hand shooter, which we already have a glut of, making it a little more complicated to slot him directly into our top 6. However, he would absolutely make our team better and add some much needed firepower.

His price is also considerably lower, which would allow us to add a LHD and  possibly a PP specialist as well.

Timo would've been our golden goose, but a silver swan is nothing to scoff at.

Don't forget, a big reason that every Eastern Conference team is loading up is to keep up with us. As long as we don't sit on that $10m, we are still going to be betting favorites for the ECF.
