Adam Shefter just reported that all roads point to Cowher here next year

The problem with him is the way he delivers his "speculation." I was listening to him on Colin Cowherd's podcast last week, and he bugs me the way he sells everything as if it's the gospel...when it's just his opinion.

He was trying to speak on every available coach, and every possible coaching vacancy as if he had some ability to see the future.

there isn't a whole lot of separation between schefter and florio.

major difference between them is that the crap that florio throws on the wall sticks more.

btw...as much as i would rather go another direction, cowher is seeming like the most likely possibility. not just for what schefter said but i'm looking at it from a business stand point, getting the most marketable commodity in. cowher is local and doesn't want to move. thats a good sign but that is also going to be a big draw for fans and positive attention for the panthers.

we have a new president who isn't coming from a sports background. he's looking at it from a business stand point. when you are the president of a company that is under-performing you do what you can to get it performing well. a sign that the organization is under-performing is the empty seats in the stands and low concession sales. it isn't the only indicator but it is a leading one.

how do you get the stands full and excitement buzzing? you go after a marketable figure. you go after the hottest coaching prospect there is and that is cowher. he is marketing gold at the moment. you get him in here and you have instant attention. not only do you have the support of fans, you now have the medias attention. fox is as boring as dirt to watch. unless the panthers are winning, no one cares. a guarantee you, if cowher is here, there is going to be a lot of attention.

here is something else to consider going along those lines. we'll also have to get a QB. if you are trying to get some attention and some excitement around here....you go after the prospects that are getting the most buzz. like it or not, that is The Golden Calf of Bristol. if not him then you get the next highest profile player. if he has a heisman...you get him.

if they want that done, the order from the top will be get it done, no matter what.

the new president could be trying to make a name for himself in trying to turn the organization around. be ready for some crazy stuff.

btw...thats what you call speculating. i should be getting paid for that crap.

I think our personnel would be suited to run it. We have a number of athletic and versatile defenders. There are many feasible combinations.

This combo seems like the most logical:

OLB, ILB, ILB, OLB: Peppers, Beason, Davis, Brown

DE,NT,DE: Brayton, Kemo(Thomas), Johnson

So, then you're letting go our best DT to go with a fatty with an Achilles problem. You're putting a guy legitimately too small for 4-3 DT and putting him at 3-4 DE. Wait, actually, twice. You have Lewis listed below but not above, so I'm not sure if you're keeping him or not.

But he doesn't fit. Most of the guys we have, don't fit. We play solid 4-3, so it's really a good way to waste a little cap space and underachieve. But, hey, scheme will be nifty! We can say we blitzed, and that's what really matters.

Yes because..Teams rosters are very accurate when reporting weight..lol

But for an 34 OLB typical size is around 6'3- at 250+..You have players that are smaller in a 34 but you have to look at there bodys the way they are built. Most of our LB are too undersized for the 34 IMO.I rather stick with the 43..

Plus you take one of the best 4-3 MLBs and make him useless. We are set up for the 4-3 and thats where I hope we stay.

I can't imagine what Cowher would do if Delhomme had one of his infamous 4 INT games.

He'd be bailing himself out of county jail.

Let Peppers go and say good riddance.

kemo and Hollis can handle the NT

we have several to work at DE--Lewis, Hayden, Tyler, Johnson. Will need one in the draft. Brayton will have no place to go.

LB's - might need to trade Davis, Beason and Conner can handle the middle

E Brown on the outside with a FA or rookie on the other side.

We will also have to trade S Smith to pick up draft picks. Need a qb, 2 wr, and revamp the whole D.

with Peppers gone, Muhammed gone and Smiths salary gone, we should have a good amount of FA money. Draft picks are the main thing as this is a good year to get a QB.

Could get a good one in the second. Our first round pick for Smith should go to the other 3-4 OLB

Good job; you just single-handedly ruined the entire team! You deserve a cookie.

Why does everyone assume we will just magically switch to a 34 defense? Our defense is currently one of the best in the league as a 4-3.

Honestly, I want Cowher in here b/c he has a ridiculous eye for talent, is very passionate about his teams, and is just an all-around better coach than Fox. If he decides he wants to go with a 3-4 then that is fine (I think its an easier defense to draft for). If he decides he wants to stay a 4-3 then that is fine too because I'm sure Ron Meeks would be more than willing to coach for arguably the best coach in the league.

Either way...All I really care about right now is that we get Jake Delhomme out of the starting lineup and a promising rookie in there.

Just saw it on ESPN. He states with Fox on the bubble, that Cowher is the likely replacement. With a new Team President from Wofford, Cowher daughter is a freshmen at Wofford and the fact that Richardson is a huge booster for Wofford.

Get ready Panther fans for boring Cowher football next year

For all that I am hearing, I hope it is not true. I continue to hear this report and it is building steam on all fronts. I cannot help but think that we were going through much of the same thing when we brought in George Seifert.

I truly think we are a decent QB away from being a perenial powerhouse in the NFL. I think that every single game we have lost could have been won with that one position being shored up. To shake up the current system with how Hurney has been bringing in talent and Meeks seemingly bringing new life to our defense... well... I only sense a disaster in the making. Couple that with the fiscal uncertainty coming down the pipe, and it could be a disaster that will have us in recovery mode for years.
