haven't started watching it yet, but overall reviews are sounding super positive in terms of this being a quality show to tune to.

How would you describe the show to someone to encourage them to watch it?    What other marquee shows would you equate it to?

I'd say dark- dystopian zombie show. If you like anything in the vein of TWD early seasons, the road, post apocalyptic stories you'd like this

only saw S1E1 of TWD.  Wasn't my thing.

Is it more drama-heavy? More action-focused?  Violent/gory?  more like House of Dragons instead of GoT?

If you are saying this to gauge whether you should get HBO Max I would say not yet.  Let the first season finish up so you can binge em.

It is actually more drama heavy IMO.  It’s damn good though.

Another note, different game based show but I think the Witcher is really surprising.  Cool show

Early The Walking Dead but they had to keep Sophia from dying

Never played the game so Im not saddled with the burden of the lore.

Very much enjoying it.  I loved the way that the first two set a specific tone and the third episode comes in and goes in a wildly different direction without upsetting the vibe of the first two.

If what we can expect is this kind of world expanding episodes scattered in and around the main thread of the story of Joel and Ellie Im going to be a very satisfied viewer.

And if Offerman doesn't get an Emmy nod it will be an absolute crime.

I was pretty stoked when Ep2 claimed the problem started in a factory west of Jakarta, since I worked setting up a factory in West Jakarta in the 90s, and then the characters lived in Boston, where I lived for a while. My cousin worked in a Verizon store and a school right there at Faneuil Hall where all those dormant zombies were out in the street.

EP3 this week.

Enjoyed the ep and how it shows Joel's and Ellie's relationship starting to thaw through lame jokes. The magazine bit was great stuff, especially the stuck pages joke. I didn't like how they shorted 15 minutes to make up for last week's ep running long. Another thing I don't like is the GOT style opening graphics.

I just skip the opening lol. Right into the episodes for me. Really liked the dad jokes lol

Just watched Epi 1.

Does it get less, uh, creepy and more into the drama of the situation in epi 2?  (I hear Epi 3 is terrific, so hoping to at least get to that one)

Yeah, they lighten up on the creepy zombies a bit. That said, the first two Eps set the stage for the zombie fungus apocalypse and the two main characters. Ep4(last night) was more focused on the human drama surrounding the main characters than the zombies. In fact, they only briefly hinted at the zombies and instead showed how people in this world deal with strangers/others. The preview for next week(ep5) looks like it'll be a mixture of the human drama and monsters.

    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
    • The lack of production is especially surprising given how much effort the team put into coaxing the best from him.  In just six short years he’s had the opportunity to work with 3 different GMs, 7 different head coaches and 10 different starting quarterbacks.  There’s literally no excuse to be made that one of those combos didn’t work.  It might be time to look withIAN.
    • I would say maybe 8 in a tier by themselves and all but 2 where picked in the top of the first allen pat m stroud burrow jackson hurts (maybe) Herbert Stafford
