COACHING MATTERS.... Last night's game!

Doug Pederson- takes the worst team in the NFL to a playoff contender with a roster that is not really elite but getting the most out of his players. On top of it his team is down 27-0 and the dude makes adjustments in the second half (Rivera NEVER adjusted) and goes on to win the game with his team, yes they will be a sacrificial lamb for KC next week should they match up with them but regardless, that team has momentum going into the offseason. Kudos to Shahid Khan here, prior to this year his team had lost 29 of the last 32 games, he is in a market just slightly smaller than Charlotte and not a nationally followed team. He had just hired Urban Meyer to a reported 5 year $60 million dollar contract and he ate that because he knew he badly missed with Meyer

Brandon Staley- supposed defensive guru, couldn't win last year in the win and your in sweepstakes to get into the playoffs. Comes into this season with a STACKED roster across both sides, this team was BUILT TO WIN NOW. Plays his starters in an irrelevant game, loses his #2 WR. Has a 27-0 lead and rushes with Ekeler a whopping three times in the second half. He will undoubtedly be fired and pave the way for Payton to go to LA.

Our owner who is many times over wealthier than Shahid Khan stuck with a used car salesman for 3 seasons and in doing so has totally alienated the fanbase.

Coaching matters Mr. Tepper, you and Nicole GTFO out of the coaching search and let football people do their job and bring this franchise the best possible coach, you and Nicole's job is to say hello to the candidates, offer them a biscotti with tea and if your executive search team says "this is the guy" then you write the biggest damn check possible to convince that person to come to the North East Transplant Exchange Capital of America known as Charlotte, NC

I remember last coaching cycle there were a ton of hot new names floated around and Doug Pederson (SB winning coach) was an afterthought.  I personally thought it was strange.  But hey, always chase the new hot name, right?

The same reason I think people are sleeping on Frank Reich.  I put him in Pederson's situation this year.  Yeah, he's getting some luke warm interest like Pederson, but everyone is looking for the next Payton (back in the day) and McVay.

Coaching does matter

especially in SF where you have a JAG QB hitting wide open dudes of of greatly designed play action passes, and the weapons around him do the work for him. Its amazing.

get a coach like shanahan that will be here with a system that will be around for years and years.

not some stupid ass defensive coach who the second we have a good OC will be sniped.  get the fug outa here.

Staley is a complete dumbass. He played his starters in a meaningless game last week and lost their BEST big playmaking WR in Mike Williams in the 4th quarter and didn't play yesterday because of that. Then (in complete Panthers fashion) they stopped doing what was working in the 1st half and went to soft zone in the 2nd half and let the Jags WRs and Evan Engram just eat up YAC. That was an epic choke. How TF do you lose a game where you win the turnover ratio 5-0? Chargers really are the Panthers of the AFC.

You have to give the Jags credit!  Man, what an epic come back.  To go from pooping the bed in the first half to bringing your team back.  Sure, the Chargers helped, but the fact that Lawrence was able to jump right back in was great to see.

Coaching matters, and having an unflappable QB with enough competitive arrogance to bounce back from set backs.

It's going to be very interesting to see how the Panthers offseason progresses.

The Jags have a talented squad. Let's stop acting like they don't. I'm not saying that coaching hasn't made all the difference, but lastnight wasn't about the Jags having a bad squad, it was about Goldilocks making some extremely bad decisions during the first half that actually made the Chargers look better than they really are and the Jags look worse than they are. Pederson was the calming influence that stuck to the game plan and got Lawrence and his guys doing what he knew that they can do.

Some of us actually thought that the Jags were the better team (or, at the very least, surging at the right time).

Jags don't make that comeback without a franchise QB

Which is why the Panthers need to stop waiting for the perfect QB and just simply get one who can make those kind of plays.

Yes and no. They wouldn't have needed an epic comeback if their franchise qb didn't throw 4 1st half interceptions. Chargers ran up the score with tons of great field position the entire 1st half. Their offense wasn't doing that much. Honestly a game manager who didn't turn the ball over probably would have had the game comfortably in hand for the Jaguars the entire time.

I saw a stat on Twitter this morning that said once the chargers were up big that they only had called something like 8-9 runs in the second half. That is terrible coaching, trying to be a show off and start throwing the ball like that. Run the ball and run out the clock. Dude should be fired. Not to mention his idiot decisions last week got Mike Williams a broken back in a meaningless game.

Doesn't matter.  Yes, Lawrence could have played better in the first half.  But what does a franchise guy do?  They put it behind them, step up, and put up points for their team.

Lawrence contributed to the disaster, but he fixed it.  Panthers don't have a guy who can repair a disaster.  Panthers need to get that guy, unless the plan is to build a crazy stacked roster ala 49ers.

    • yeah. winter backpacking trips were the most miserable and amazing experiences. same with the coldest and snowiest hunting  experiences. i love being in it. makes for incredible memories. the worse it was, the more i ended up loving it. made the greatest memories.  i just want to get out of it afterwards.
    • I forgot about Jackson...definitely elite.  The sad part of your list is that 2 of them were 'there for the taking for the Panthers'.  Rumor has it that Hurney loved Herbert and was vetoed on trying to trade up.  And rumor has it that Frank & McCown wanted Stroud.  I believe both rumors.
    • I went on a solo elk hunt in the Flat Tops. It was awesomely miserable. LOL It was a late season hunt, I think third season and it was forecasted to snap off cold with highs in the upper thirties and lows in the single digits. fug it, I'm going anyway. They were wrong. The highs were in the low 20s and the lows were in the negative teens. I shivered so hard the first night I thought my teeth were going to break. It was the only time I've ever been legit concerned that I might be in trouble. Crawled out of my sleeping bag and got a fire started and suffered through the night bundled up next to the fire. I slept the next two nights literally wearing every stitch of clothing I'd brought with Nalgenes full of near boiling water in the bottom of my sleeping bag. That was the only way to have non-frozen water in the morning anyway. There was about a foot of snow on the ground and the melt/freeze crust was almost enough to support your weight but you'd go crashing through just as you went or make your step. It was exhausting travel and every step sounded like a rifle shot. Hunting was basically impossible. I never saw an elk in those four days, only saw 5-6 deer. LOL It was brutal but I loved it. Absolutely beautiful country that is never been to before and haven't been back since. I needed that four day complete break from society fighting for my life against the elements. I'm weird like that.
