But honestly, I think this reporter guy is full of poo and just talking out of his ass on the off chance that we don't draft a QB. We don't have a coaching staff yet. The folks with a lot of input on this aren't in place yet. True organizational level scouting on draft prospects is really just getting going. If you're saddling a new coach with Corral and/or Darnold, then yeah... welcome back, Wilks. Because dudes with other options are gonna peace out on that noise.

We don’t even have a GM yet. Or really even an owner. Despite the positions not being vacant.

Will Kunkle who covers the Panthers just said on WFNZ

“I don’t think the Panthers draft a QB”

“They don’t like any of the QBs that are expected to be available.  And do not want to move up for one of these guys.”

Derek Carr, draft a guy where we're comfortable taking one.  Carr, rookie, Corral, and Darnold go into camp.

Why would Darnold go into camp if they're not going to re-sign him? 🤔

It's mandatory that each off season sports reporters turn to "anonymous sources" to tell fan bases their favorite team's secret thoughts on the draft and which player and position they value. These "anonymous sources" are usually the either the sports writer's imagination, or people who are not involved in the draft process. The reason for making up stories is to generate clicks for money, and because sports writer's are held to the lowest possible standards when it comes to the draft. It's essentially print whatever you want to get attention, and just make sure your tall tale references anonymous sources who will never be named because they don't exist.

An anonymous source told me that we're interested in taking a WR at the 9th pick. "We just don't like the value for a QB at 9." said my anonymous source. No I won't name the source, not even after the draft is over. You'll never know my source.

I think people are just trying to read between the Tea leaves about the news that CJ Stroud might be going back to school, because Levis’ odds to go #1 have shot up tremendously over the past eight hours.

I think he’d have a decent chance to win a Natty but I think next years class qb caliber is gonna bump him down stock wise and I doubt his ceiling changes.

Oh by the way the next step is to say the contrary with another anonymous source, so I'll go ahead in do that part now ahead of time.

An anonymous source told me that the Panthers are in fact interested in taking a QB at 9th. "We like this group of QB's, but we want to be smart and stay put. A guy we like may fall."

I'll do the other ones that are being written now for the coming weeks and months ahead.

The Panthers are looking to trade up for a QB according to my source.

The Panthers are looking to trade down for a QB according to my source.

And a few other variations of these types of made up stories.

    • I was going to post something very similar, BUT I expect our front 7 on D to make a jump similar to the one our o-line made last year. 1. Brown is back after missing all of last year. In 2023 he was 1 of the best at his position. 2. Wharton and BB3 are solid players who are NFL caliber starters. 3. Jones is very good pick up; 26 yo and coming off a 7 sack season. Add to that we spent 2 high draft picks on Scourton & Umanmielen. Unproven in the NFL, but the our staff felt good enough about them to cut Clowney who was our best OLB last year (sadly).
    • He would make us a legit backfield.
    • Bravo! I certainly don't know how guys think that we're going to "stink" this year. I'm not saying that we won't, but the DBs were ranked in the low 20s as a unit (according to Chat), so I don't easily see us getting any worse; we should be better. The D-line improvement should help the backfield out a lot, and Jackson and Horn know what they're doing. The older vets we acquired shouldn't take too long to make their presence felt, and we have a couple of promising youngsters in Smith-Wade and Ransom. How do we not make at least a  slight to modest improvement from last year?
