We have to come away with MINIMUM a vertical threat TE, WR and RB on the offensive side.  Not sexy but, DE, ILB and FS on the defensive side.  That's about the entire draft.  The very reason I want to TRADE BACK a time or two to pick up 2-3 more picks.  We simply do not have enough to fill what we need.  Still should get another LB (super thin now), slot WR, IOL and possibly a nickle corner.

Can't get all that in 7 picks.

There's free agency too.

Yeah, about that.  I know they will toy with the numbers some, but re-signing Bozeman, probably Sam, Eddy, Foreman and a few other role players to keep in house is going to leave us with very little for outside FAs.  Remember we have only about $1M in cap and (-$14M) in effective cap.

This is the modern NFL era where the cap isn't real. We can restructure basically forever and kick the can basically forever.

This is quite literally the new way to handle that. Especially with the cap expected to skyrocket in the next few seasons.

It isn't just the Saints that do this. It's the norm.

The Saints have been over the cap every year and still make splash signings. If you want to sign people you can make it work.

And eventually you have to clear the books.  The Saints have to do monetary gymnastics every offseason to get a few good FAs.  Once their GM/ financial guys are eventually let go, the people replacing them will have a hell of a time getting their cap back into order.

I've been hearing how the Saints' cap issues are coming home to roost now for over a decade. It might be time to just admit that they're better at the accounting fugery than we are.

Well Payton jumped ship because of the quagmire the Saints are in and McVay is getting ready to bounce because of the same.

    • I think a lot of wrs are going to go in the second round before we pick.  There are a lot of wr needy teams.  I think there will be a big run on them in the late 30s and 40s.
    • Interesting that they met with Walker three times and Cam Jackson twice.
