Tepper clearly wants to change the Panthers identity

I can judge him on winning more games in 12 tries than the push-all-the-chips-in-and-go-for-it coach got in 17. 

WIth a staff and roster he didn't pick, he went 3-4 against teams with winning records. If you think that's bad, prepare yourself for the record of his predecessors.

Lots of questions and no easy path for Tepper.

• Hire Wilks - who's the OC? DC? Lynn/Flores would be the expectation. Johnson probably follows Steichen. Caldwell could work, but also wonder if the game has changed too much for him to take us to the next level.
• Hire Steichen/Johnson - who's the DC? Can these creative OCs with no HC experience run a locker room/team?
• Hire Reich - Is he HC material or a better coordinator? Last few years in Indy were not great. 

 

After Rhule....you can't mess this up.

We had one of the most prolific offensive seasons ever under a defensive head coach. Do you guys really think that Burrow and Mahomes etc are really good because they have “offensive coaches.” McVay is an offensive genius and looks like dogshit without a good QB this year. Whoever is the coach needs to fix the offensive personnel and the team will be good and have a chance to win a lot of games. You don’t need a 35 year old offensive coordinator to win.

Tbh outside of saying no to Harbaugh (which may be about total control) I'm relatively happy with his pool so far.

I know its cliche at this point but Tepper didnt make 15 billion by being conservative and "settling".  I know its not apples to apples with the nfl but it undoubtedly shows his mindset

If Wilks interviews well and gets the job I'll support him because I'll believe he will have sold Tepper on a new identity that includes more dynamic offense. I can believe he was severely handicapped there this year. But his defense is just as problematic.

Look he went 6-6 and you can't take that away. He had 3 different qbs and lost his best player. He took a few weeks to build his program and figure things out. Truth is he took Darnold and we averaged right at 23 points a game. Which is above the average offensive points in the NFL. I can totally get wanting someone else as Wilkes in boring and thinks a punt isn't a bad thing. But he did a good job and no reason to think he won't do better in the future.

Why can you take away 3-13 but we can't take away 6-6?

Wilks may not be as bad as his 3-13 record but why do we assume he will definitely be his 6-6 record?  When he took over our D nose dived.

I think he's probably closer to .500 than .321 but let's not act like his floor is .500 ball.

He proved a lot over the past 12 weeks and let's be real here we were God awful before he took over and went from 1-4 to 6-6 with his best player gone for the year. This isn't just me saying he did great but virtually anyone looking in. And the beef is you didn't beat good teams like the Bengals or Steelers.  Give the man his due whether you want him as your coach or not.

Because the 3-13 was years ago and the 6-6 shows where he is today. Better indication of his current ability.  And I guess not having a secondary impacted why our defense got worse.  Truth is you have to nitpick to find fault when he did a great job under the circumstances.
