Sam Darnold had the 13th worst QB win in NFL history if we measured passer rating

Do you think Matt Corral and PJ Walker are better?

Wrong question.  Matt Corral has potential to develop into something.  Therefore, he has purpose on the roster.

What is the purpose of signing Sam Darnold.  He is what he is.  A bad QB.   And yeah, PJ Walker can follow Sam out the door too.  We don't need to waste reps on those types.

Sam Darnold in 2022 was the definition of average NFL starter.

The majority of his rankings are around 15th in the league.

QBR is built on a 0-100 scale with 50 being average. Darnold 2022 was 49.2.

----

If you can sign an average NFL starter for backup money, you do it. Even if you think he may regress to lower end starter to top end backup, it still makes sense value wise. Unless your plan is to tank. The tricky thing is, no one here knows if Sam's progress this year will continue or not.

I don't think we'll find out 'cause I don't believe the Panthers re-sign him.

23 year old Matt Corral - the world is your stage young man.

25 year old Sam Darnold - hang 'em up you ol' geezer

it's flawed to take his small sample size run that over the course of a season and act like it means something.  As we saw in NY and last year in Carolina.  The more time he is on the field the worse it gets for him.

Sam has never been an average NFL starter in the NFL.   And he has enough proof of that where you can't sell cherry picked games like it could somehow happen.  He is a vet.   You would be signing a bad QB to backup money.

Corral - raw potential

Sam Darnold - worst starting QB in the NFL over the last half decade.

These 2 thing aren't the same.

Sam hurt some of these guys feelings and must go.  He wasn't a superstar so he must be torn down.

Like you said, he's average and without knowing what Corrall is, is better to have at lest one known commodity on the roster at QB, even if that is an average player.  The Huddle loves the unknown, if you can't tell. Corrall hasn't played a meaningful snap--name him the starter!  Draft a QB that has tons of question marks, BOOM, STARTER!  Then when crap blows up (which is obvious to some of us) the board goes into meltdown mode.

Bridge qbs keep you mired in mediocrity. That's all we've had since we lost Cam. It's time to suck it up and start the draft pick or Corrall and move on. Let the chips fall where they may.

I'm with ya brother. Like I said. Next year we may not be world beaters. But getting there is going to be a blast.

He played over 1/3 of the season. It wasn't just a game or two. If we draft Levis and he becomes starter in Game 12 and puts up similar numbers, Huddlers will proclaim we've found our guy. They're the same age or right at it. lol

Baker wasn't winning. PJ couldn't lead us to wins. Darnold enters, puts up the best stats of his career, and we go 4-2. That's back up worthy.

But he isn't.  That's the point.

Nothing average about being a below 60% completion QB in the modern-day NFL....while not being a game changing running QB.

and Sam isn't a 60% compeltion QB.  Not this year.  Not last year.  Not the year before.  Not over his career.

Average in today's NFL is like 65%.

Cheers. It's baffling they can't even acknowledge a little progression.

Also, I think many of them are just ignoring that Corral looked out of place in the preseason.
