Guys who are in line to be a head coach aren't making a lateral move to come to Carolina and coach w/ a has been.

Brian Johnson is a Qb coach(Eagles)... so offensive  coordinator  is not a lateral move and Mayo is the linebackers coach for the Patriots.  Moving up to Coordinator would be an upgrade to both.

It's great to throw names out, but I'm not quite sure why Brian Johnson would join Wilks rather than someone like Gannon or Steichen who he's worked with for the past few years on the Eagles staff if they land a gig? Or just stay put and get elevated to OC in Philly if Steichen gets hired elsewhere?

It's been mentioned that both names have been linked to  the possible interview that Wilks had. I'm not just throwing names out there. I had to research  them after reading articles  about them possibly  being part of his pitch to Tepper.

No, I understand Johnson has been linked to Wilks a possible OC option (Breer reported that a few times I believe). I'm saying if I'm him, why would I make that move? Especially if Steichen gets hired elsewhere as HC, then I'd rather stay in Philly, get a promotion, and work with an MVP caliber QB in Jalen Hurts.

Trust me I understand!! I definitely  would stay with my guy but then again, it could be looking at potential  of the team.  If Steichen goes to the Broncos(just an example) and it flames out vs having to play Mahomes n Herbert etc. This head coaching opportunity  is honestly a gem when you look at the division.  No bias at all... just looking at which opportunity  could boost ya resume faster and looking at a possible  Brady  departure, Dalton and  Ridder, has to be paramount to a guys outlook.

Yeah I think in the case of Brian Johnson specifically, he's probably thinking 1) does Steichen get a HC job? If yes, I'm in line to get become OC with a great QB in place OR I could follow him depending on the situation (e.g. if Steichen lands in Houston or Indy, I can help mold a top 5 rookie QB); 2) does Gannon get a HC job? If so, I could potentially follow him similarly to Houston or Indy (reports are that Gannon is the early front runner in Houston) and probably have a bunch of autonomy to coordinate the offensive side of the ball with a #2 overall pick at QB. I think Wilks would be my fallback where if Steichen doesn't leave AND Gannon gets a HC gig but has a different person in mind at OC, THEN I would look into a situation where I take the promotion to OC under a guy like Wilks that I don't have much (any?) experience with.

I definitely  see  your logic and feel the same!! I don't know if there are any ties that Wilks has with the said candidates but it does all really depend on the moving parts in the other coaching vacancies.

From what I understand, Mayo does the job of a defensive coordinator. He just doesn't have the title.

Belichick is kind of a dickhead about these things.

This is what coping looks like.

Wilks isn’t getting it, stop being delusional

Coping? What are you talking about?

My preference, as I've said over and over, is for us to pick a young OC.

Doesn't mean I deny Wilks did a good job with what he had.

I don't actually know why Breer has been  tying Johnson to Wilks.

If there's a connection between them, I've missed it.

Does Wilks have any connection to Dan Mullen? Johnson coached QBs at both of Mullen's stops (MSU and UF) and was also OC at Florida before Mullen was fired.
