Five Potential Landing Spots...

Quote

Carolina Hurricanes

Carolina Hurricanes, expected goals for percentage at five-on-five rank this year: first. Carolina Hurricanes, goals-per-game rank: 20th.

Since the 2019 post-season, 19 teams have played at least 20 playoff games. Among those clubs, Carolina ranks 13th in goals per game with 2.69.

You could make a case the Canes should be hunting a centre (Bo Horvat?) more than a winger, but wouldn’t Kane be a fantastic game-breaker on this squad that just feels like it hasn’t been able to scrape up goals when it needs them most?

Freddie, Jack and a 1st?

... more?

IDK but adding Patches and Kane to the lineup makes my pants tight!

Best American born hockey player ever.

But, he is 34 and plays a sh!t-ton of minutes. Unfortunately, Chicago decided to rebuild, but held onto he and Jonathan Toews. Neither of them were very happy when very good players like Artemi Panarin, Alex DeBrincat, Marc Andre Fleury, Brandon Hagel, Duncan Keith were all traded as part of the rebuild.

Both Kane and Toews are making $10.5M AAV on their current deals, and the 2 of them together make more than the other 12 forwards on the roster combined. Sure, they're both UFAs at the end of the season, but Kane is well off his career number with only 25 pints to date (5G, 20A) and he's a -21. He averages 27 goals a season and will be lucky to hit 15 this season.

I thought he would have been a great fit a couple years ago before he got his current deal, but anything now I think is just a rental.

That rental could help us win the cup. I would do it.

How much of his hit do we have to take if we were to trade for him around the deadline? Could Chicago potentially retain most of it if we offer them good picks?

If Chicago retains most or half of the contract, fug yeah

Chicago may be willing to do so just to get him off the team.

We could also bring in a 3rd team just to retain some of his and/or Freddie's salary.

The more I think about it though. I’m not sure how much we’d get for Freddie unless a contender desperately needs a goalie. Considering his contract is up after the year and his injury propensity.

I actually think Toews is a better fit if we are hell bent on going after one of Chicago’s veterans.

We really don’t have any more winger positions available and I’d really like to upgrade the 2C position.

I’d do Freddie, Ryan Suzuki (prospect), and a 2nd for Toews (with retainment).

Pacioretty - Aho - Teravainen

Svechnikov - Toews - Necas

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Nosen - Kotkaniemi/Stastny - Jarvis

Stepan - Kase

That 4th line would be absurd
