Drafting a QB is a total crap shoot according to a Hall of Fame QB.

A year or two ago a Huddler posted some stats about “hit” rates per position per round.  QBs were pretty far down the list even in round 1.  It’s by far the hardest position to evaluate when it comes to transitioning to the nfl

I actually think the whole "Qbs bust more than anyone else" thing is a bit overstated. They're one of the harder groups but year to year it depends, sometimes they aren't as bad as others. Some analyses suggest other positions can be more prone to busts: https://walterfootball.com/nfldraftoffensivetackles.php https://theriotreport.com/more-than-50-of-first-round-picks-are-busts-and-other-terrifying-draft-statistics/2/ https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2441018-which-positions-are-the-safest-riskiest-at-the-top-of-the-nfl-draft

Kinda seems like QBs have one of the highest bust rates (not the highest) but also if they're first round hits they tend to be very good.  Not surprising tbh given QBs are drafted for their potential as much as existing ability.

It's amazing to me how Panthers fans try to talk themselves out of taking a QB every year and then inevitably bitch about our sorry QB play every year.

You know what a highly drafted QB definitely does? It gives you some hope. At least briefly. Isn't everyone ready for SOMETHING to be hopeful about with the Carolina Panthers?

I’m a fan of taking a QB every single year.  Even if it’s a mid/late round pick. The position is too important to not use a pick on one.

I think what is most important here is coaching. The worst teams pick first because they have the worst records and mostly the worst coaching. QB is the most important position on the field. Without the coaching, the QB they draft is set up to fail. Whats going on here is coaches failing the player, not the other way around. If a team has a good QB coach and OC, they will have a better shot at not busting after drafting a QB high.
