How would that play when we gotta get max on the salary though?

Drury is going to get sent back down and his and Kochetkov’s cap hits are nearly identical.

In the new year we’ll be seeing something like:

Pacioretty - Aho - Teravainen

Svechnikov - Kotkaniemi - Necas

Martinook - Staal - Fast

Noesen - Stastny - Jarvis

Slavin - Burns

Skjei - Pesce

de Haan - Chatfield

Kochetkov

Raanta

Extra’s - Stepan, Kase, Coghlan

Injured - Andersen

Call Up’s (should injuries occur) - Drury, Lajoie

A couple things to note:

Coghlan is not waivers exempt and I don’t believe the Canes want to give him away just yet, so I’d expect him to stay with the Canes.

Drury is waivers exempt so he provides good depth and can be moved from Carolina and Chicago with ease.

Lajoie is not waivers exempt but he does provide good depth, I don’t see anyone claiming him anyway if the Canes were ever in the predicament where they had to keep moving him from Carolina and Chicago.

Andersen is still no where near close to returning from what I’m hearing. So the Canes will have some time do some cap gymnastics.

That brings me to Kase, I doubt he’s a part of our future. Every time the list of injuries gets brought up by Rod, he’s not mentioned. I don’t think Rod wants to contribute to any long term health issues that Kase is sure to face. I think Kase will be traded and I think Freddie will take his roster spot.

So all in all, when healthy… Aho, Pacioretty, Coghlan, and Andersen will be with the Canes (Stepan will be the extra) and Drury and Lajoie will be in Chicago where they will provide good depth. It’s my belief that Kase will be traded.

Does the NHL have a medical settlement/release clause like the NFL?

And, could Kase simply be released? If he's the guy to get traded, who wants damaged goods?

Not sure about that but I figured if he didn’t want to come back then he wouldn’t be practicing. I imagine if he gets cleared then there can’t be any settlement because that would be an easy way to circumvent the cap.

Can anyone tell me what happened with Letang last night? I got home with 8 minutes left in the 3rd.

Thought I heard he ran Jarvis into the net... or...?

Jarvy was going to the net trying to make a play on the puck. As he cut away from the right side of the goal post and Letang shoved his stick blade on Jarvis skate tripping him into the goal post. Very dirty play. Could have been very bad. Letang should be fined or suspended.

He put his blade into Jarvis’s skates first notch.

The Penguins’ locker room was dour. Perhaps angrier than at any time this season (and I’ve been in the locker room for approximately 30 of the 33 games).

Evgeni Malkin took full responsibility for the winning goal. Players cleared quickly. A normally available player spoke for less than a minute. And there was also a curt, gritted-teeth tone to coach Mike Sullivan.

The Penguins were an angry bunch.

Malkin’s mistake was a point of frustration for coach Mike Sullivan, too. His typical 6-8 minute postgame presser was condensed to about two minutes. His answers were honest, but brief. Little explanation was needed beyond his few sentences.

According to NaturalStatTrick.com, Carolina dominated the scoring chances (30-19) and high-danger chances (14-5).

Carolina is one of those teams that shoots the puck from the rafters. If they can shoot, they do. They fired 36 shots on Jarry, including plenty from tight angles.
