Just gonna leave this here:

A very well-run, professional sports franchise in Raleigh pretty much handled their business against their Pittsburgh foe this evening.

You may thank the Carolina Hurricanes.

There's a hockey board on this site. The Hurricanes cant win in the playoffs because they have a terrible power play and questionable goaltending. Same story every year. Fast forward to May. There I saved you the time from watching them too.

Oh, but wait. They have a championship.

Oh, and they've been winning in the playoffs for 3 straight years now.

Funny, you of all people, a Panther fan, talking about winning in the playoffs when you haven't sniffed them since...?

Since before I sold my PSLs 8 years ago.

But yeah, turn on your TV and absorb yourself with abject failure week in and week out while enviously whining about a winning, well run organization.

Great. I support the hurricanes too because they are a local team. If you don’t watch the panthers then there’s no need to come here and comment on the team. No one cares that you watch hockey and think it’s better. This is a football thread.

I'm not sure what people thought was going to happen.  A few of us said going into this game that it was two 5-8 teams, both with QB issues and less than impressive passing games.  The team that ran the ball effectively and stopped the run effectively won the game.  With the exception of last week against the Ravens, the Steelers were good against the run.

The Steelers were not even that impressive at running the ball (3.5 ypc) but they committed to it to the tune of 156 yards.  We ran for 21 yards at , which is less in total than their longest run from scrimmage.

The Steelers also converted 75% of their third downs, and we converted a bit over a third of ours.

If you gave me those numbers before the game, I wouldn't have even asked to see the passing numbers.  I would have told you the Steelers won, probably by more than they did.  Despite all that, the difference in the score came down to red zone efficiency, where they were 3 for 3 and we were 1 for 3.

It was always going to be an in-the-trenches battle, and they won those trenches.  The only reason the score was not worse is that they are a 5-8 team.  Well, 6-8 now.

Our only saving grace, if anybody wants a silver lining, is a team of 5-8 quality is going to win the NFCS.  Yeah, I know, the Bucs were 6-7, but that includes pulling out a couple of wins in the dying seconds against bad teams.   It is not who wins the most in the next three, but who manages to lose the fewest.

Our motto for the last 5 years and probably the next 10+ years.

We are the modern day browns. Let that sink in...

Or we could be the Jets.  They have swung for the fences with rookie QBs and completely stuck out...multiple times.  If you are not sitting at #1 overall, then you do not have the best shot at a franchise QB.  We are at best looking at QB3 and likely QB4.  If anyone can sit here and tell me that QB4 is better than WR1, TE1, or DE2 this draft is absolutely nuts.

I get your point but when there is only one qb that is signed for next year and he is hurt, something has to be done.  Come hell or high water we are drafting a qb and more then likely we are going to be reaching big time for him.   And quite honestly I could see fitt or whoever taking multiple qbs in the draft depending on how it falls and how MC is doing come april.  They have to infuse the qb room with more talent and what they have been doing simply isnt working.

We will have first dibs at Darnold in FA, heck Walker for that matter if it came down to it. I'm not against taking a stab at a QB later on in the draft, but passing up a near certain thing for a QB that, at best, looks like a 2-3 year project?  Nah,  I can't justify it.

I bet most people didn't realize that Darnold was statistically better than Mitch yesterday.  Trubisky had a running game working for him and a WR that had no problem getting open.  That said, he didn't have to outplay Sam because all the parts around him were clicking.

Food for thought.

No offense to you as I know what you are saying and where you are going with it but seriously fug PJ Walker and majorly fug sam darnold.   Back ups or not we have to do better then that.  Darnold is dog poo and walker needs to hit the xfl.

Whether its fitt or whoever and with a new coaching staff I just simply cannot envision a scenario where we dont take a qb in the first or trade up to 2 to get one.    At some point you just have to do it instead of kicking the can down the road.  Will that qb fail, probably but you have to at least try and with a new coaching staff the timeline matches up nicely
