How good is Brian Burns 2022 campaign?

Give me the Rams pick 36 this year, the Rams 2024 and 2025 1st round picks and $25-30M in FA money each year and I’d put down a nice wad of cash that even I could add more value to the team than Burns. I’m sure I’ll get a sarcastic response but that’s a poo ton of potential.

It’s funny but Burns went 16th and somehow people like you refuse to even consider that one of those two first round picks from a team who’s 4-10 this year and would have given away another set of key draft picks, can’t possibly give us a good pick. Look at this draft. Picks 3, 4, 9 and 12 are from trades. Miami got Waddle and another 1st and 3rd with one of the picks they got from Houston for Tunsil because Houston fell apart.

Since we would have siphoned off two more firsts and a second from the Rams,  it’s easy for me to realize that their 2024 or 2025 firsts could have ended up with a player like Chase, Jefferson, Waddle,  Anderson or Jalen Carter. Then we’d have a player better than Burns plus two other solid rookies and a ton of FA cash. Contrary to opinion in here, there are players with more value than Burns in the next three drafts. We could screw it up or we could get our Emmitt Smith and a ton more.

Exactly, and while Burns is good he's not an irreplaceable game-changer. The last time this discussion came up at the DE position, I daresay plenty of people were angry about the Charles Johnson contract, and while he wasn't the supreme athlete Burns is he was a more complete player who could dominate against the run as well as rush the passer. Burns has yet to match Johnson's 11.5 sacks in 2010 on a defense that didn't play with many leads...

You’ve answered yourself in this thread already. “He’s no Myles Garrett” (which is exactly the whole point) AND he’s “is what Reddick is”(once Again…dead on) are your statements.

Which is why it doesn’t make sense to pay a player 10M more than he’s worth a year. Reddick, Smith, Nwosu, Hendrickson, Judon and more. All for around 15M/year. And Burns is basically replaced. Now on top of 10M to fix another position. AND Three premium picks. That could be traded themselves for an QB or proven vet.  All to overpay a top pass rusher.

Those guys are 1 in a generation type players. Garrett went what number. bosa went what 1-2? your not gonna get those guys without giving up a considerable investment. However, we were lucky to snag Burns at 15. he has clearly out played his draft position.  Your talking about 3 premium picks that aren't sure to be at 15 which is where u got burns and you dont know who you be getting.

Rams didnt give up this years first dont think they have one so u on hold another year to replace Burns. your drafting another pass rusher and hoping hes as good. your worried about paying people but hell who are we paying? we dont have a franchises qb and most our core guys are on rookie deals. at some point u have to pay someone.

I would slightly disagree, #1 is qb and #2 is protecting said qb with edge a close 3rd.  Now since we dont have a qb and its looking more and more likely we will not get a top prospect at least this year dont you think those 3 high picks could have gone a long way in solidifying the qb position, the one where you acknowledge is the most important in football?

And again, nobody is hating on him but you in particular are vastly overrating him as a player.  How many games in 4 years has he completely taken over?   As I said since sunday he was a detriment to the defense, he was a complete liability again in the run game.  Fat ass fitts is going to regret tremendously not taking that haul especially considering the rams are sinking faster then the titanic

Completely taken over? how many player do that consistently? Garrett and maybe Parson and bosa? Other guys are hit and miss. Yes hes a liability in the run game because your playing him out of position. Hes not a 4-3 end we knoe that. Nobody is overrating him you are underrating him.

your value is what teams and your peer think of you. and the rams think hes worth 2 first and a second. That a FACT. not opinion.  and Fitts thinks hes worth more than that so whos wrong? you or them.

Who cares where he was drafted. That means nothing now. And Garret, who is a “generational type” gets 25M/yr.How is it smart to even pay Burns  lose to that. The picks are pure bonus after Burns is replaced with 15-17M DE, and a 10M more investment at DT or other DE. And 3 picks that would be top 40 and possibly top 10 with the direction the Rams are going.

  5 players.
  2 proven FAs
  and 3 picks

or

Pay a guy who is “Reddick” like he’s Garrett. Which he “isn’t according to you”. On a team with numerous holes to fill. Use the whole picture and not just the picks. You can buy a jersey of the new players too.

We've reached the point of Panthers fandom where unless you think Brian Burns is a below-replacement level, mediocre defensive lineman, you're an unintelligent fan

At this point hes the face of the defense if not the team. He's young, on his way to a second pro bowl, that Spider-Man thing is highly marketable and hes arguably the heart and soul of the D. He clearly cares and does more good than bad by a good margin to me.

He's an excellent player, which makes him a fan least-favorite

Because I, along with most sane people, think Brian Burns is a better player than Derrick Brown?

Nope. Stating that there is no metric(whatever that means) other than “personal bias” where Brown is better than Burns is the issue.

Is PFF biased? Is it a metric? What’s your criteria? Let me guess…it’s fluid.

Because what you aren't acounting for is the cap goes up every year. the next contract will be bigger than the one before. If there is more money the next pro bowler gonna wanna be paid higher than the guy who last got the deal. Garrett will get a bigger deal if they signed on the same day but it doesnt work that way.

Yes it matters where they are drafted because of a variety of factors. Say the year Burns came out that was an extremely good year for pass rusher. you had Bosa, Josh Allen, Farrell, rashawn Gary and then Burns followed by Sweat at 26. That class of pass rushers is very rare some years you might get 2 first round ends. so where your picking matters if your gonna land those type of talents.

    • I don't think Rodgers but probably not for the political reasons I bet a lot of posters are motivated by. I just think he is not the QB for the Panthers, at all.
    • Sun Devils just scored another TD on BYU, 14-0
    • It wasn't great but  the 2022 NYG won 9 of 16 games plus a playoff game. He had a 92.5 passer rating. 15 pass TDs 3200 yards, 7 rushing TD, 700 yards 6 fumbles 3 lost.  His first season he had 18 fumbles lost 11. Wow.  Anyhow he had problems in 2023 with injuries and didn't win poo before tearing his ACL. This year, no Barkley, not good, but you know.... these ACLs take a while and it was right and he throws right so pushes off of it.  I agree it doesn't hurt to let that guy compete cheap. You don't hand him the job like with Bryce or NYG with him.  When I look at what we have been saddled with, he doesn't look worse and has the physical advantage. So I don't get the umbrage given our situation. This "No we won't settle for anything less that the best" attitude and then taking Bryce Young was pathetic and I think that attitude brought us to where we are. That's where that poo gets you. Away from Mayfield, away from Darnold, even away from PJ - just to replace them with an inferior PJ.  At the same time I am not really advocating for the guy just looking at it objectively. It could be another guy with the same story. And yes the odds of him getting it are low but the numbers and performance from 2022 are for sure better than we see with Bryce even after a season of major propping him up with better players around him. Take a look don't take a look he fails or he doesn't fail...   to instead sit here and be happier with what we have is bullshit.
