Most explosive plays by team in 2022 - 10+ yard rush and 20+ yard catches.

And we are definitely where you would guess. This has got to improve next year.

Edit: for those who can’t click we are the 7th worst at getting explosive plays this season. A lot of that is poor coordinating and QB play

Who would have thought that explosive plays have no correlation to winning… that’s crazy.

Well with the metric provided, it's one team that has a RB that consistently gets 10+ yard runs (Chubb) and 3 teams with the top running QBs (Bears, Eagles, Ravens).  Would like to see this with some adjustments.

It's all about how it's qualified.  I'd personally love the team to be able to make big plays at will, it helps with scoring TDs which I hear are important.

This is just about offenses and has nothing to do with defenses. But it’s hard to sustain drives if you don’t get chunk plays here and there.

I kinda wish the chart would show a breakdown of it per game. There is some real good story telling that can be done with that depth of data

I don’t disagree, I think this data set might be too “loose” to actually pull informed conclusions from it.

The whole 'explosive play' thing is, IMO, not an indicator of much of anything. Kind of like the 20-yard threshold of 'deep pass' missing the point, which is typically to try to measure how often an offense can cause drastic change in field position or on the scoreboard. Neither a 10-yard run or 20-yard pass achieves that.

IMO yhe best example of this is the Saints after about 2011 or so. Sure, they won games and put up pretty stats, but when it came to the playoffs and competing against the best teams they were unable to really take advantage downfield and got shut down.

Doesn't mean QBs have to be long bombers all the time, but 10 and 20 yard plays in a vacuum aren't that impressive.

We need to go heavy offense in free agency and the draft obviously.  Surprised with the Bears being first cuz of their record.

The Bears have been averaging like 27 points a game over Fields last 6 starts. However, they give up over 30 a game lol.

It’s mainly their run game. They lead the nfl in rushing I believe.

having a running QB helps.

Correct. Chicago has almost 40 more runs of 10+ yards than us. They have 4 less 20 yard completions. However, most of those completions have come over the last seven weeks for them. The dude on twitter is providing other details if you ask in comments.

    • I get the highly drafted QB bust comparison but that's it. Lance is big, fast with a strong arm. His physical attributes got a 4th. Bryce doesn't have any of those things.  I agree that it challenges the narrative that it's all because the team's bad. If the team doesn't look that bad with Dalton then was it really the team? However, one could still say but last season was so bad it shook him. That's probably true too. Why can't both things be true?  Can't look desperate if you are hoping for a trade.  I thought Riddick hit it pretty good in this one.
