Need to pick one up as a gift for the girlfriend. She literally does nothing with a computer other than surf the internet and maybe a little emailing.

Anyone have any they recommend in the $300-$450 range?

I would reccomend a Dell Mini 10v. Good for the price. Also look into a Dell Latitude 2100. Its not technically a netbook, but it has netbook internals and price. Its rugged, cheap, and it comes in bright colors.

You also can't go wrong with anything by Asus.

Just make sure what you buy comes with either XP or Windows 7 and not Linux. You don't want her shafted in compatibility and familiarity. Also, if you get 7, make sure it has at least 2 gigs of ram.

I have an asus eee and it's just great.

ditto on making sure it has xp if you're getting it for a non-nerd girlfriend.

I have a 9" eee but the drawback is the keyboard is pretty cramped.
