Canes v Flames 4pm

Last Time Out: The tough times continued for the Canes on Friday, although it didn't look like it would be that way in the beginning. After six consecutive games without a power play goal, both units broke through in a big way. Each scored in the first period, inspiring confidence and giving Carolina an early 2-0 advantage against the Atlantic Division leaders. Aside from a few big saves from Pyotr Kochetkov, that was as good as the outlook would get for Rod Brind'Amour's club. A late second period goal for Boston, combined with the Canes offering them six power play chances, allowed the Bruins to come from behind and force overtime. They'd then win it on the man advantage in OT, giving Carolina their fourth overtime loss in their last five games.

In The Crease: Pyotr Kochetkov's start yesterday was his fourth in a row, making 38 stops en route to another unfortunate defeat. Through six starts this season he has allowed a total of just 14 goals, although his record now sits at 2-1-3. Kochetkov was not scheduled to start Wednesday night against Arizona but Antti Raanta was "nicked up" at morning skate ahead of the team's meeting against the Coyotes, thus prompting Kochetkov to become the first Canes netminder to start three games in a row this season. Prior to yesterday's game Rod Brind'Amour said that Raanta was healthy enough to back up, but the team wasn't going to start him if he was less than 100%. During the Brind'Amour era in Raleigh it has been extremely uncommon for a goaltender to start games on back-to-back days, so the question of whether Raanta is healthy enough to start today's contest is a big one.

Good On The Back Half: Through three back-to-back sets so far this campaign, the Canes are 3-0-0 in the second game.

Be In Your Seats On Time: The Flames arrive at PNC Arena with 23 first period goals this season, third most in the NHL. Conversely, they've also allowed 23 first period goals, tied for the second most league-wide. When it comes to the third period, they've scored just 13 goals, the fewest in the final stanza by any time thus far this season.

Injury Report: Forward Ondrej Kase has been in concussion protocol since October 13. Goaltender Frederik Andersen (lower-body injury) was placed on injured reserve November 10, retroactive to November 6. Forward Teuvo Teravainen (upper-body injury) was placed on injured reserve November 11, retroactive to November 10. Teravainen and Max Pacioretty, who tore his Achilles in August, have been skating together recently though.

On The Other Side: Calgary comes to town for their final bout of a six-game road trip out east. They are 2-2-1 on the venture thus far, taking wins from both Florida and Philadelphia. Former Hurricane Elias Lindholm leads the way for the team with 16 points in 20 games this season. A key component to their game, like Carolina, is getting pucks on net. They have averaged 35.6 shots per contest this season, third most in the NHL.

You know I said the same thing the last night. 5 game wins streak and all will be right.

For me, the more important things I want to see regardless of winning or losing is our powerplay improving, our goal scorers scoring, and staying out of the box. Those are our huge weaknesses and will need significant improvement if we want to make or do anything in the playoffs.

We suck. At this game live we don’t have the push we had last year.

Feel like we have no killer instinct. We play like monsters and then get a lead and than sit on it. Then lose. The amount of lost leads this year is more than in the past.

I know both teams play the game, but maybe we are not countering adjustments or something. We start hot, go up, opposing team adjusts and then cracks us in the teeth.

Whatever it is….. I fuccking hate it.

    • We all remember 2023, when the Teppers were making the Pro Day rounds.  Then last year, the owner of this restaurant, blocks from Bank of America stadium, sent a message that was received by the Panthers' owner. 😡😠🤬 https://www.foxsports.com/stories/nfl/panthers-owner-david-tepper-makes-news-once-again-on-day-1-of-nfl-draft Why would an owner of a restaurant put up a sign of this nature?  Flashback to the Tepper Pro Day tour.  Brace yourselves: THE PRO DAY CIRCUIT,  2023  "THE HORROR." That is Nicole Tepper, all up in the prospect evaluation process with some motherly love and awkward post-hug expressions.  I was like, "What is she doing there?" Here is the lovely owner of the Panthers on the front row among scouts and our head coach at Ohio State's pro day in 2023. MODERN DAY:  APRIL 2025 So, have David and Nicole realized that ownership in the NFL does not make you an evaluator of talent?   Will their egos allow them to let others do their jobs?  Or should we brace ourselves to see their thrones moved to the war room on April 24, preparing for their draft day interventions?  Have they been on the pro day circuit?  Have we tarnished his desktop brass balls?  Did the bartender hurt his feelings?  Did he get the message?  Just because we don't see them, it does not mean they are not there--lurking in the shadows--hugging people and talking to coaches.  Texting stuff. "Dan, take who you want, but that Offensive Guard from Guilford is my third cousin twice removed."   We need to be diligent.  Stay focused.  Keep them away from the brain trust.  Seriously, did they get the message?  What have you heard?  Are we safe? Recently, GM Dan Morgan was asked if the Teppers were involved in the private workouts at BOA.  Morgan refused to answer, but he did stare at the reporter for 43 seconds.  This photo shows Morgan being asked about the Teppers' involvement during a recent presser: According to inside sources, a hyperbaric oxygen chamber, made famous by Morgan during his playing days, was recently seen being delivered to Morgan's office shortly after meeting with the Teppers, a meeting that included a power point featuring the Teppers' top 50 prospect list.  Please post any Tepper-related news here.  Hoping there is not any.
    • TJ Watt is stirring up social media with throwin up a ✌️. Sounds like he either wants out or knows he is out.  So. question is, if the Steelers come calling and offer 21 and TJ Watt for 8, are you biting?
    • He was a partial owner before he bought us out!
