Panthers sticking with Matt Rhule

Despite poor decisions on quarterback acquisitions and 23 losses in his first two seasons, Matt Rhule earned the vote of confidence entering Year 3. However, few — if any — around the league believed Panthers owner David Tepper was truly sold on Rhule.

The suspicions were justified when Rhule was fired after a 1-4 start. Then the Panthers traded Christian McCaffrey to San Francisco, signaling the start of a rebuild that could have commenced this past offseason had Tepper hit the reset button then.

Interim coach Steve Wilks now finds himself in a virtually impossible situation. And with the team spiraling further, he just fired two of Rhule’s former assistants, after two others got the axe in October when Rhule was dismissed.

Tepper did have to balance the patience dilema, and got him some NFL guys. Rhule just seemed to revert back to his horrible instincts as soon as football started, after spending all offseason convincing our handful of super optimists on here that he had turned the corner with a few cheesy press conferences.

Like I understand patience, I just don’t understand why he wanted to be patient lol

I never understood the decision to keep him.  99% of us were sure that he was going to be fired before the end of the season and we were right. 

I think more than anything Tepper's ego prevented him from firing him after year two.

The decision to hire him in the first place wasn't exactly a stroke of genius.

As literally everyone in the fanbase could see midway last year, Rhule was not going to work out. The Giants game did it for me.
