The thing is, you gotta pay though for a top Edge. He'll never be at the very top tier like Pep was because we'd have seen that already. We're kind of stuck between a rock and a hard place; it will be a big time contract for a tweener.

Thanks to the franchise tag, we will always have the leverage. Declining the trade does not provide any leverage to burns. I’m actually interested in how you think us not trading creates “leverage” for burns

The franchise tag exists. And in the event the Panthers get an even nicer offer next year they can heavily consider it. Some people need to take a break from this trade talk and step back from the cliff.

Because it shows how much we "value" him.   And in regards to the FT it looks like it will be north of 20 million in 2024.  Its a lot but not back breaking.  I think the overall guaranteed money he will be looking for could be crippling down the road.  That in the past, is always where we get ourselves in trouble

$24mil a year for a DE doesn’t seem that extravagant when we got WRs making $35mil a year. Burns is easily worth more than that, and he’ll get it if Chubb got 24. Burns is better by a fair bit.

Doesn’t us “valuing” him create leverage for us? Bc the franchise told the league we aren’t trading him bc we want him to be apart of the franchise?  I just don’t see a situation where that is used against us. 
 

It really depends on how the guaranteed money is broken up. With as many picks we have this coming draft, I expect the FO to front load his contract, so we don’t have to deal with it down the road. Much like we did with DJ.

How are they going to get a nicer offer now? The Rams wanted him cheap(1M) this year. His value went down when the deadline passed.
