Cowher's Coaching record...

I really hope that dose not happen. Hurney for the most part has been a good GM.

I could see keeping Hurney with a slight change in support staff. For one, I'd absolutely want Rob Rogers kept in place. He's shown himself to be a good contract guy and with him on the job we haven't had a lot of the kinds of issues with agents that other teams have.

The guys who serve as Hurney's primary support when it comes to player evaluation are Don Gregory and Mark Koncz. Gregory's only been here as director of college scouting since 2006 and his results, while not perfect, have been decent. Koncz, on the other hand? Inconsistent in my opinion. I'd like for the team to find a pro personnel guy with a little better resume'.

I'm with you Rogers deserves to keep his job the rest should go. Maybe keep Gregory depends on who becomes GM, I think he is decent. In no way do I want Koncz to keep his job there has got to be someone at scouting pro potential out there. I think if we get Marc Ross he can upgrade our entire team. He has such a keen eye for talent its uncanny.

Besides a group of good first round picks, where has Hurney stood out to you as a high quality GM?

Bingo. Marc Ross please.

That whole Peppers/Pep's agent not signing the Franchise Tag or getting a trade done and totally handcuffing the entire orgamization last offseason. True, you certainly don't see other teams with those kinds of issues.

Not many people are in a similar situation.

The fact that he was able to keep Gross, Peppers, Gamble all in the same year was impressive. Some years its about keeping your team.

How was Peppers not signing the tag hurneys fault? And Hurney cant help if there isnt a trade on the table that wasnt worth it.

Yep Gross got the big contract, after the year before signing his FT contract without drama.

Hurney had no control over a potential Peppers tarde, the contract offered him only allowed Peppers agent to seek potential trades unless Peppers signed the FT contract. Peppers had alreasdy publically announced he wanted out of Carolina and would not sign. The Panthers bargaining position was poo, Hurney stared down Peppers, blinked and lost badly. Eventually, Peppers was retained, in the worst possible fashion, signing his contract in late July as it was play in Carolina or stay home at that point. By then players were cut or not offered contracts and all that great depth last year we had on the offensive line, gone to greener pastures as we had no money to retain them. We couldn't even re-sign our long snapper Jason Kyle, we had to send a draft pick to Green Bay for a new snapper.

Yes, last November Hurney did give Chris Gamble a 6 year, 53 million dollar contract.

So he signed his starting all pro left tackle for longterm. I would say thats a plus. What players did we lose out on that wouldve made a more signifigant impact then Peppers?

Geoff Hangartner, thats a win right there. Can you imagine how shitty the Bills OL would be without him. Surely we could have beaten them then.

It isn't so much who the Panthers lost, though we did lose substantial OL depth,

its what the Panthers could not do, and who they could not get, no opportunity to make the team better at any position, thanks to Mr. Peppers' contract.

Add to that what amounted to a desperation move in picking up Everette Brown at the cost of a 2010 #1 pick, and there you have it.

Can't blame Julius for taking the check. I blame the man putting him position to take the check.

Your point?

Obviously Peppers had no impact on a winning record for the Panthers this year. He did show up for a couple games after Beason ripped him in the media.

His 16.7 million dollars spread across several players might have had a positive impact on our record.

As sharp as I can make it.
