Cowher's Coaching record...

He wants a lot of money like 10million a year.plus the money owed to fox.I rather get the up and coming DC.

And no to a 3-4.

You do know that has nothing to do with the salary cap right? Let JR pay however much he wants to pay, I care not.
true.

and if he changes to a 3-4 (which i'm not crazy about, btw) what does it matter if it helps this team achieve dominance? if he gets the job, i really don't care what he does as long as it works.

same with anyone. loyalty is to the team. not any particular coaches, players, or systems. whatever makes the panthers better, i'm in favor of.

And he averages a whopping 1.146448 more wins per season than John Fox.

He made the playoffs 3/9 times in the last 9 years of his career, or 33%. He started off his career in Pittsburgh great, but wasn't as strong since 1997. Obviously a good playoff run that resulted in the Super Bowl in 2005, but still, he is not as dominant of a head coach as everyone wants to believe he is.

has he not had a track record better than fox's? is he not a step in the right direction?

he may not make this team into a dynasty but as long as he can make the team better, it's all good. isn't that what everyone wants?

Not this again...

1. It's easy to compile such a record when they had the Bungles, the old Browns (which became the Ravens), new Browns and an expansion team (Jacksonville) in their division.

2. If it was any organization other than the Steelers, Cowher would had been fired before getting that ring. How he went three seasons without a playoff berth in the late 90's and got to keep his job is beyond me.

3. We need a long-term coach, not someone that will abandon ship in 1-2 years if it "doesn't work out".

4. We don't run a 3-4 and he'll ask for a boatload of money because he'll be in high demand.

5. Bet you that Foxy can be sent to the Steelers and be able to produce results. To me, the Steelers already have refined their formula for success; all the coach has to do there is to follow it.

This makes less than zero sense.

*4/9 in his last 9 years with a record of 7-3 in those playoffs

John Fox: Games over .500: 11

Bill Cowher: Games over .500: 59

John Fox W-L%: .545 (59th highest ever)

Bill Cowher W-L%: .623. That's the 20th highest ever. Also 11th highest ever among coaches with 10+ years coaching. FIFTH highest ever among coaches with 15+ years coaching.

Mike Tomlin also basically won a Super Bowl with Cowher's players. If Cowher stuck around longer, he would have had another ring.

So yes he is a dominate Head Coach and he has the resume to back it up.

As was pointed out, the division that the Steelers were playing in almost guaranteed 6 wins annually. Except for maybe 4 years out of those 15.

Also, Cowher probably would have not won that SB because he had a chance to coach those same players that Tomlin took to the SB and went 8-8 with them.

I don't want to seem like I wouldn't want Cowher at all but a little perspective is nice.

I think that he COULD be a good coach for this team but I think a lot of people said the same thing about Siefert.

I'm just not as high on him as a lot of other people are, I think there is a better coach out there. I would rather have a young and hungry coach than a dude who has sat behind a TV desk for the last 3 years.

3/9.

1998-2006. Nine years.

1st in 2001, 1st in 2002, 1st in 2004. Three division championships.

Read wikipedia more carefully.

The games over .500 state is moronic because Cowher coached for 15 seasons to Fox's (almost) 8 seasons.

And to discount Tomlin's accomplishment of taking an 8-8 team from Bill Cowher after 2006 to a Super Bowl victory in 2008 is just as stupid.
