There's a lot of people saying picking number one doesn't mean much...

Stroud is the only QB worth our pick. Young is too small and injury prone:see Tua. Levis is a solid qb but nothing about him says Star and Hooker has too many question marks. If we don't have the number 1 pick to get Stroud, I want the best player in the draft, Will Anderson. He is a smaller version of Lawrence Taylor. Rebuild this team with talented and hard nosed players. We haven't had that approach for years and it shows.

i agree. people who say the number 1 pick doesnt matter are not very knowledgeable of the game. having your pick of the litter could be the difference between like u said cam or blaine.. or payton manning and ryan leaf... Get your guy first and not pick off the leftovers.

Until you realize the SB record of all the teams that have picked #1 in the draft.

Who is the last #1 pick QB that has won a SB with the team that drafted them?

Peyton Manning?

The SB winning teams would trade down and accumulate more draft capital.

I'm aiming for a Bart Starr, Johnny Unitas, Roger Staubach, Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Kurt Warner, Tom Brady, or Russell Wilson while using the 1st round pick on defense or a freakish receiver.

You can have your Bob Griese, Terry Bradshaw, Jim Plunkett, John Elway, Phil Simms, Troy Aikman, Ben Roethlisberger, or Patrick Mahomes.

These are all the non-Mannings who have been to multiple SBs. Seems pretty even when it comes to 1st round or non-1st round QBs. You get better value with the non-1st QB while also having more opportunities to find a consistent champion with much less league wide competition.

The Mannings were pedigree and are a special breed raised to be an NFL QB.

Hmm... would it matter if we ended up with the No.32 pick in the draft because this guy going to Disney...

Imagine having your franchise QB and Head Coach right now, plus the picks next year... believe...step into the dark side...or as Brady would call it a dark place. Either way, Wilks and PJ make the playoffs I say give them a two year extension shyt Tepper gave Rhule 3years....

There isn't a Newton in this year's draft.

Maybe we get lucky and hope for the rare year the top pick at QB turns out to be the best qb. 😆

this is revisionist history, there were A LOT of questions about Cam coming out

He wasn't even the consensus best QB let alone the best player.

I don’t doubt it that the players want to win. That they don’t care about getting the top pick.
But if we play ourselves out of a QB it will be the same sad song and dance that has been happening the last 3 off-season.
People say we can trade up but really does anyone believe we will? I don’t.

I do think they would. Tepper was about to give up a stupid lot of stuff for Watson. Irrational desire takes over. QB is like Tepper’s White Whale.

It is always the same: you only bemoan the cost if you are wrong. You have to get it right.

Picking number 1 means you suck and reach for short Mayfields and Murrays and Youngs

You'd think this would be wrong, but the vast majority of #1 picks just seems to bear some level of truth here.

A bad season nets you the top pick. A history of being a bad team keeps you picking at the top of the draft. You may be getting the picks of the litter, but if you can't either evaluate or properly use the guys, then it's all a wash.

I want a team that can win games more than anything. Even if you are picking in the middle of the pack, with the right evaluations and a real, honest appraisal of your assets and coaching potential, you can make a winner.

Sooner or later, every team has to put its future in the hands of some 21-22 year old kid straight out of college. More often than not, it doesn't work out. Taken at the right time, with the right team already on hand, and preferably with a good vet QB in the room, you can make it happen.

Brady, Rodgers, Mahomes, Wilson all came out of college into just the right situation with the right coaching and well-built to progressing teams.

Are we in that spot? Maybe, if you squint just right. There was a lot about yesterday's game that made me think we might just be a QB away. But that's a lot on just one game. And that's a lot on just one young QB.

I sure do wish we had gotten the chance to see Matt Corral in actual game play.

Lockers stock dropped substantially. I’m a Mizzou fan, and consistently watching Gabbert made it obvious he wasn’t the dude.

Cam was easily the best. He had/has a narrative around him about his character (which would hang with him his whole career, even after proving otherwise).

Cam showed up at the combine and was a man amongst boys. Clear number one regarding talent, frame, and results.

I remember seeing that SI cover and laughing. Even the way they are positioned in the photo makes it obvious.

mahomes is a outliner... just like brady. yeah ever 5 years you might find a guy like mahomes who has lofty potential and actually live up to it. but those are gambles that payoff. the more sure thing usually goes higher in the draft. not sure what point yout trying to make.

what even a broken clock is right twice a day argument?

A top 10 QB is an outlier? Now you may be getting closer to warm... There is no perfect projection with QBs inside the top ten you are stacking the deck to about one in three instead of the ridiculous outliers outside of the first, I'm interested in what standard you are using for this seeing as mentioned by anther poster only three QBs taken #1 on the last fourty years have won a Superbowl as the starter for the team that drafted them and it should be easy to figure out the two not mentioned because they are both named Manning.

Mahomes is outliner meaning a qb taken at whereever he was pans out. you want to say that qbs taken number 1 only 3 have won a superbowl but the odds are skewed. only 1 teams out of 32 can win every year. on top of that your taking every qb not picked at 1 and counting them as a win for your argument. thats ridiculous.

The qb taken a 1 has a greater chance at winning the super bowl than day qb taken at 15. or at 5 or at 7 and so on.
