the panthers are not just one player away from being a great team

people keep saying this as if jake is the only problem on the team. Jake blows but the Panthers are terribly flawed to the core and even if they had peyton manning or tom brady they'd still need a number 2 receiver, 2 starting defensive tackles, a special teams coach, an entirely new special teams, and depth across the board. they're probably two draft away from having all of that.

this isn't just one problem

signing mike vick and bill cowher won't send them to a super bowl

stop being stupid babies and over simplifying a very complicated problem

I agree that Jake isn't the only flaw on this team. However, if you are a coach and looking at this team as it stands there is a lot there to begin with. Most people will tell you that in building a team you start with the lines then move out. On offense there good on defense not so much but there are peices there. LB and Secondary has a good core. Same with the RB and TE.

Getting a new QB alone will not fix all of the problems, as evidenced in Chicago. But the cupard isn't bare either the way it was in KC or St. Louis.

well most SB teams are flawed and have chaulked up several losses before the big game....so you could still make the arguement they could only be a QB away from it. A good QB and this team would have bad this playoffs this year......probably would have made it w/ a very average one also.

Sure there are other holes, almost every team has them but Jake IS on a different level resulting in the biggest issue and problem this season. I have been a supporter all the way up through the beginning of this year. The problem is unfortunately this team would have at least 3 or 4 more wins if they just had a decent QB this year. Jake has been brutal, underthrowing, overthowing, missing recievers left and right, fumbline, throwing picks, etc. With just better QB play the panthers beat Buffalo, Miami, Jets, probably the Cowboys. They are an 8-3 or 7-4 team right now.

it is a myth about a super bowl caliber team. all teams that make it to the playoffs are super bowl caliber. look at the cardinals. heck look at the 2003 panthers. its about making it to the playoffs and giving yourself a chance. if you can consistently make it to the playoffs you give yourself more opportunities at the superbowl which is the ultimate goal. there is no perfect team with no flaws destined for the superbowl. all teams have flaws. the good teams know how to cover their weaknesses.

a agree, somewhat - plugging in a good QB won't make us dominant. There's too many holes elsewhere. but that doesn't mean we wouldn't be competitive, VERY good, playoff-caliber. sans injuries, we would - with a quarterback better than '08 jake, which is not hard to find - just as good or better than our 12-4 team fielded last year.

07 Patriots? certainly not... we could only dream of being that dominant, and there's no way to get all the pieces together in one year to put together that kind of talent. but i don't think it's unreasonable to expect that a GOOD quarterback, a dependable possession #2 WR, and a little bit of depth at DT and OT, in addition to our current strengths, would make us a very, very, very good football team.

    • I think it will be a transition year will be a playoff team (more grindy and young blood) but not a top contender... but in 25-26 back to being a contender IMO Nickishin will be ready to do day 1 IMO.... and if we can get some of these young guys the experience/development FUS/Blake/Nadeu/Morrow
    • in itself i didn't/don't have an issue with this. And our main point has always been that we didn't want to be one of the go for it all teams at the deadline because we have a window that has term with Slavin/Aho/Svech/Jarvy.  however. keeping martinook above market value and not combining the youth influx with things like changing things at goalie and or signing a big name as a guentz replacement just feels like so far we're kind of sitting this out, and i really dont like the idea of taking a large step backwards from pre deadline roster last year. i understand we've given this a run with the same guys and it hasn't worked and changing some things there. but we also know exactly what our glaring issues are. so to not get better at those while also getting worse/losing big time names in other areas is pretty disheartening thus far. Hope there's more to come.
    • It looks like next year is going to be the year that a lot of young guys get a chance.
