The Panthers brain trust got hosed. What a joke. I hope he does well getting away form these crackheads.

You may not like the trade personally, but I don't see how you can say we got "hosed".  We got 4 high to mid level draft picks for our oft-injured, super high priced RB.  As I'm sure you know, its not that difficult to find a cheap, productive RB these days.  RB's today are complimentary pieces, not something you invest in or design your offense around.  2nd, 3rd and 4th round picks are nothing to sneeze at.

What a thing to wake up to this morning.

Man, it sucks because I really enjoyed watching him play.  At the same time it was depressing because of how good he is, stuck to the incompetence of the Panthers and Matt Rhule these past 2ish years.

Realistically he was drafted to help Cam into the twilight of his career.  That didn't happen.  As amazing of a talent at CMC is, he can only do so much.  Blame whomever you want, but we weren't a winner with CMC being the focal point of our offense.

I wish him the best of luck in SF.  I will still watch him from the edges, and I hope that he helps SF win a SB so we can watch the 49ers fall apart immediately after.  Shanahan is going have some fun scheming him up with Debo so that should be a lot of fun to watch.

As sick as it made me feel this AM, it was time for CMC to go.  We got a lot of compensation so I'll take that.  Just sucks thinking about how terrible the Panthers Offense will be the rest of the year.

All true.

Cam not being able to overcome that injury derailed this team, holy crap has it been a disaster since then.

See ya CMC, loved watching you play.

And the draft picks as well as the player salaries on any new contracts will adjust accordingly.

Every other teams cap goes up the same - we aren't going to be the only ones with money but we will absolutely be one of the least desirable locations to play. Take top offer and add another 15% we're going to have to add to outbid anyone

This all changes with a top pick and a new HC.  Players go to teams with good coaches. So until we know who the new HC will be this is all empty conjecture.

But going back to the original point of our conversation, the Panthers are not in a bad salary cap situation.

You might find it hilarious but, history backs it up. Look at the current roster. This team is a hot mess and future 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th picks aren't going to solve anything. Hell, look at our success rate drafting since the inception of the team. CMC is one of the bright spots. The new coach is going to walk into a house with bare cupboards.

Team has a franchise LT, EDGE, Corner and a WR1.  Not to mention Chinn and Brown.  There are plenty of building blocks in place and thankfully at the most important positions.  Dont be silly this team is pretty appealing for a new coach coming in.  Especially when they get to pick their QB first overall.  Team is bad but for the first time in two years we actually have a light at the end of the tunnel.  A young QB developing with a good Oline and you always got a shot.

We moved an aging player at a very low value position for a bundle of picks to give our young QB more weapons.  I know its sad to see CMC leave but this team is in a better spot than Rhule got here if we land a top QB in the draft.

i think he was drafted in the 6th round but yeah

He wasn't drafted.    Doesn't really matter.  I mean, 6, 7, and undrafted.  That's where you should be adding young talent.  RB is one of the spots where those late round picks can actually work out.

Jaguars are another team that royally fugged it up there in recent history.  Jaguars stumbled into James Robinson.  Another undrafted RB.  Stud. Then drafted Etienne (my guy) in the first round.  So stupid.  And I'm an Etienne homer.  But that's not how you do it.  Waste of a pick.  That doesn't help Trevor.

KC took Edwards Helaire in the first round.  Then they drafted Pacheo in the 7th.  Pacheco looks way more explosive.  But KC is forced to play Edwards Helaire because of the investment.  And even if he is better.  The 7th rounder looks just as good for peanuts.

I don't care if Bo Jackson reborn is available.  Don't draft him high.

Neither one of those two, hell both of them combined aren't as good as Cmac.

I think some people here are severely overrating the impact CMC had on the game.  Yall are acting like he was rushing for 1800 yards a season and scoring 20 TDs. He's had a grand total of 2 1000 yard rushing seasons, the last coming in 2019.  We're almost in 2023.  He had one really great season, 3 years ago.  Since then, hes barely done anything.  We gotta stop living in the past as Panthers fans.

what about the 28 million increase to the salary cap?

We went in to this last offseason with 34 million dollars and came out with excellent FA acquisitions. The bottom line is this entire conversation is speculation. If we draft a qb with our top pick, we are going to spend now to build around them. It's the only formula that this franchse hasnt tried this decade. Its going to happen.

The NFC south next year is going to be drained of talent... so we will have a head start on the rest.

One, it’s already been addressed. All teams get more. Which means everyone decent makes more. Two, where is this 28M number coming from. OTC has +17M. Sportrac +10M?

And those excellent FAs and restructuring contracts built a team bad enough to get the first pick. Seems logical to keep doing that. But the bottom line is your “numbers” weren’t correct,, and the future isn’t as rosy as you claim.

I find your optimism interesting considering we are currently setting records for being awful. Particularly when we were just getting by with mediocrity before. As long as Tepper owns this team, it's going to be an extended series of mind numbingly, pants on head, stupid decisions. Get used to the idea.

It's insane the pedestal they have put him on

Needed to happen.

CMC deserved better than to be here. As a RB, realistically he's in the twilight of his career, and he deserves a title shot rather than spending the next 2-3 years on a rebuilding team, serving as a crutch for the interim coach and new head coach while he installs his offense.

We need money, and picks. This gets us both. CMC was our Cadillac in front of our trailer home. He's an asset we couldn't afford, and didn't need when we has such fundamentally larger issues we needed to resolve. He had our shot with him on the team, but those days are past.

Wish him the best, and I hope the assets we got for him are the building blocks of our future.
