That's what we've been doing and so far this year we are 32nd in yards per game last year we were 30th and in 2020 when he missed the bulk of the season we were 21st with Teddy Bridgewater and Mike Davis.

2024 things get interesting but then you have Brown, Chinn, Horn all coming up for extensions. We are far from set. The only hope of success for the franchise is that they hit on this draft like the Saints did in 2017 and more importantly they absolutely nail 1.01 and get a true franchise QB.

You are excluding the fact that the salary ceiling is expected to go up 28 milllion in 2023.

Thats 35 million from restructuring at our current clip of -3 million. This is before the cap ceiling is raised. You also have Elf's contract which would give us 4.75million at 2.9 dead cap. 

 

So that would be 41.9 million in dead cap and 39.5 million in available cap BEFORE the cap ceiling raises. With 9 picks in the draft and 35 players under contract. 

 

All of the above with a rookie QB (most likely) and 115 million the next season..... This is an ideal situation for the franchise at this transition point.

The off season hasn’t even started yet. And it’s 40M with Shaq already. You think they are cutting a few players between now and then. Hence 40-50. Elf as you suggested? 
 

What about the 16(or so) players needed to complete the roster? The salary cap going up just means good players get more. Every team gets it too. How about the 10M for draft? 5-7M for PS, IR, in season moves? And that 115M will get significantly smaller with those 35M in restructuring. 
 

   Ideal is not having to restructure players just to field a poor team after already being the worst team the year before. And the plan is to spend all they can to do it again. Good Luck

That's more than Cam, Teddy, Sam, and Baker who were all 1st round picks!

Why do all of the pro-trade people focus on the record with Christian on the field but they never say a word about the mediocre QB play in Carolina since the 2017 season? If we don't get a good QB in 2023, the record won't be any better with those extra picks.

All anybody has been talking about for years is our terrible QB play.  Obviously it all starts and ends there.  We MUST have a good QB to be even a mediocre team.  Which is why we are now all in on the tank, in order to secure the first pick, and draft one of the hopefully generational talents in Stroud and Young.

What a thing to wake up to this morning.

Man, it sucks because I really enjoyed watching him play.  At the same time it was depressing because of how good he is, stuck to the incompetence of the Panthers and Matt Rhule these past 2ish years.

Realistically he was drafted to help Cam into the twilight of his career.  That didn't happen.  As amazing of a talent at CMC is, he can only do so much.  Blame whomever you want, but we weren't a winner with CMC being the focal point of our offense.  

I wish him the best of luck in SF.  I will still watch him from the edges, and I hope that he helps SF win a SB so we can watch the 49ers fall apart immediately after.  Shanahan is going have some fun scheming him up with Debo so that should be a lot of fun to watch.

As sick as it made me feel this AM, it was time for CMC to go.  We got a lot of compensation so I'll take that.  Just sucks thinking about how terrible the Panthers Offense will be the rest of the year.

Every other teams cap goes up the same - we aren't going to be the only ones with money but we will absolutely be one of the least desirable locations to play. Take top offer and add another 15% we're going to have to add to outbid anyone

EXACTLY!  What we are doing now, and probably into next year, is washing off the stink of the Rhule regime.  Short term its going to be painful, but I see the vision now.  We are positioning ourselves nicely to be contenders in 2024 and on.  We will still have Horn and Ickey on rookie deals, a young hopefully franchise QB on a rookie deal, hopefully Burns on a new contract, DJ Moore, etc.  Sometimes you have to take a step back to take 2 steps forward.  Rhule was the worst thing to happen to this team maybe ever.  All that bullshit is not going to be fixed overnight.

You might find it hilarious but, history backs it up. Look at the current roster. This team is a hot mess and future 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th picks aren't going to solve anything. Hell, look at our success rate drafting since the inception of the team. CMC is one of the bright spots. The new coach is going to walk into a house with bare cupboards.

what about the 28 million increase to the salary cap? 

 

We went in to this last offseason with 34 million dollars and came out with excellent FA acquisitions. The bottom line is this entire conversation is speculation. If we draft a qb with our top pick, we are going to spend now to build around them. It's the only formula that this franchse hasnt tried this decade. Its going to happen. 

 

The NFC south next year is going to be drained of talent... so we will have a head start on the rest.
