They won’t. I honestly don’t think cmc moves the needle that much for them. If they can get healthy they might have a chance but like I said earlier this reeks of desperation and is a huge gamble on an oft injured but talented rb

It really is a huge gamble for them.  Because they still won't have a 1st in 2023 because of the Lance deal, right?  So they will be down their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and 4th picks in the 2023 draft as it stands now, and I imagine really backed up against the salary cap.  If they don't win it all in the next 2 years, that team could crumble into a Panthers level poo show really quickly.

We have 18 million dollars in dead cap for CMC in 2023.  After that hes cleared off the books.  Which is good because if we had kept him his salary for the next 3 years is at least 15 mil per season.  We will take our lumps on the cap next season, but 2024 and beyond we should be flush with cash.

True. Next year gonna be rough. Long term, hopefully it frees up space for Burns and a solid free agency to help in 2024. Definitely gonna need to hit this upcoming draft

this is a good trade for both teams

san fran is win now mode and don't know what they have moving forward at the QB position. if CMC stays healthy, Shanahan is just about the best coach he could have ended up with.

Say the Panthers are competitive again in 2024, Stroud/Young/Whomever's 2nd year. CMC is 28, with god knows how much more tread on the tires. How good is he on that team?

good haul of picks. First rounder wasn't on the table. They got a 2nd and 3rd for a RB with a terrible contract with a huge injury history in 2022. Most people upset on here have completely unrealistic expectations about what their players are worth. Unless you get Jim Irsay rolling on MDMA, you're not getting a 1st rounder.

Fitterer did well on this. He tried to create a bidding war but the only two teams interested were short on firsts.

good luck to CMC. Hope he wins the super bowl.

Yeah we aren't in the FA business next season.  It's about draft picks and acquiring cheap young talent.  Once we have our rookie QB and HC running their system for a year we will know what pieces we need and sign FA according the following year.  Also we probably are going to extend Burns which will lower his cap his next year.

with a qb and coach that has their sea legs

We finally have a fuging plan.  Finally.  Every motherfuger on here should be happy because overnight we finally are moving forward as a NFL franchise.  No more throwing poo against the wall.  We are building through the draft.

I’m still amazed at the absolute meltdown from trading an oft injured, massive cap hit running back whose best historical season netted us 5 wins. Hopefully this is the end of building around a rb.

draft a qb in the first round,  draft play makers/oline with the next two rounds. Do this the right way.

Lol thats 18 Million DEAD money next year.

We are back in the negative for next season after this move. There is no "cap to spend" next season. We can make a few moved and restructures to get under and sign a bunch of dumpster dives or maybe 1 mid level players and our draft picks but thats it.

2024 the books open up but I'd imagine that evaporates quickly once Burns, Chinn, Horn, Luvu and others start inking deals. Unless of course we just trade them too.

lol. We are at -3 million over the cap before the salary cap ceiling is raised. We will be under the cap, and we still have Shaqs contract that will potentially free up 13-24 million. You are overreacting without looking at the facts.

1. Extending burns would give us 15million back in our pocket

2. Rerstructuring T-Mo can create another 8-11 million

3. Restructing DJ Moore can create another 8-20 million pending on the restructure

Come free agency this team will easily been in the 30s-40s in cap space. We are in a really good situation cap wise for years to come because there are only 2 players on long term contracts that take up a large portion of our cap.

I literally never actually post here - just read. But this is a post worth making.

Some of you have some wild thoughts on this - “either gets a 1st for him or don’t trade him” …. What? There’s a reason literally NO ONE would give a first for him. Think about that. Beyond that, what good is keeping him when we aren’t winning with him and haven’t been? On top of eating his crazy contract? Some of you are so completely beyond the scope of reality thinking a RB at the tail end of his prime, who’s missed damn near half his career would get anything close to a first round pick.

Are 49ers fans happy? I bet. They got a shiny new toy. And they probably think this will put them over the hump. I doubt it will.

Go to the Saints Report forums. Go to the Falcons forums. The Seahawks forums. The Falcons forums. Hell - any forum (including Twitter) with a thread about this trade and literally everyone thinks SF gave up way too much for CMC. This place is the only place where people feel the Panthers got the raw end of this trade.

we weren’t going to win with him and now we at least got a nice chunk of draft capital for a rebuild process and opened up a good amount of cap space.

This was an AMAZING trade for the Panthers in their current situation, and if CMC helps SF, then good for them too. Obviously I want SF to lose as much as possible for draft position.

You are not a smart person

This I agree with.. Finally rebuild the right way and stop looking for short cuts..

Get the right coach..

Foundation is DJ the Oline and the young parts of the defense...

Get the QB and more weapons in the draft (Wr, RB, TE) .. 2024 can add some vet spark to the defense... Contender 2025 beyond..

Nice, but the caveat to that is we probably only have a handful of players signed to the roster...

24 players but its the core. It includes everyone but Burns. Once we get to this point though we will  have gone through 2 drafts (15 total picks) and 2 free agent periods.

    • One has a proven, offensive-minded, Super Bowl winning head coach along with a top 5 OL + defense. He's being protected and getting the ball back not having to chase the other teams. The other had Frank Reich + Thomas Brown their rookie year with a bottom 5 defense as well as a bottom 5 OL that gave up the 2nd most sacks against a rookie QB ever. The sophomore season is being ran with a top 5 OL but also with a rookie HC (that has just one year of OC experience) and a bottom 5 defense still. The Broncos defense has allowed over 20pts just three times this season (26 vs. SEA (L), 23 vs. LAC (L), 41 vs. BAL (L)). Meanwhile, the Panthers have had ONE game where the defense gave up less than 20pts (vs. NYG (W)).   I'm not sure how folks couldn't expect Bo Nix to statistically perform better given their incredibly different situations. With that said, I didn't expect Nix to keep ascending as impressively as he has this season. Hopefully his arc will give other older college QBs a better shot, especially given the recent media blitz against the NFL regarding how development of the QB position in the league seems to be non-existent. Hopefully Bryce continues to improve as well, of course.
    • “You can learn a lot in 10 games,” Nix said. “[I’m] still learning, still growing, but just finding ways to execute the play that’s called, no matter what it is: run play, pass play. It doesn’t matter. Just finding the right way to go with the ball.” To that point, Nix noted how his developing partnership with head coach Sean Payton has helped Denver’s offense get to the next level. “To be honest, I think at the beginning, you kind of make the NFL bigger than what it actually is,” Nix said when asked where he feels he’s made the most strides. “These players are really good, but at the same time, you have really good players on your level. I think simplifying the game, trying to play as fast as possible, and finding a completion, which is what we’ve been able to do here recently. “I think as we’ve gone on, Coach and I have found a good rhythm of what we both like, what we can kind of put out there on the field, and what we can execute. Then the guys have kind of adapted to it, found our roles within the offense, and executed at a high level. It’s just all about slowing the game down and processing things in a manner that you can handle. Just kind of see one or two things, and let those guys take you to where the ball is supposed to be.” -Bo Nix From what I'm gathering regarding Bryce, the Panthers entered this season with a reset mindset. It's Young's rookie year, which explains the benching. Now, we're beginning to see the development of Canales and Young's offense. Slow development but we're winning 😃
    • Bix has more tds through his first 11 games than bryce has his entire career....no comparison at all he made amazing throws during his first games his decision making just keeps getting better.  Young does not have the physical ability ro make the rhrows bo makes
