Sounds like Scott Fitterer will continue as Panthers GM in '23

Once again, do I get to add players to those CLE and NYG teams as well. I thought Baker did ok against the Browns. Gave the team the lead on his last possession.

So Burrow was good, and nothing changed as far as team success. See how that works.

The Panthers are a couple years away. If they make smart decisions. The idea that a HC/QB is going to make this team a playoff contender next year is laughable. Keep kicking the can for 5 win teams and it will be much longer.

Once again I don't think they will be a playoff team next year.  Just competitive IF they get the right coach and QB in the draft.

Burrow had the Bengals team more competitive of his 7 losses 4 were by less than a TD and they tied the Eagles, beat the Jags (bad team), and the Titans (good team) before his injury. His defense gave up 35 to Cleveland, 31 to the Colts, and 37 to Cleveland in his 7 losses as well.  All of this with a BAD HC.

So like I said we CAN be competitive (not a playoff team) next year IF we land a GOOD HC and good QB to add to our roster.  It's a big IF, but I think our defense and OL is ready for it.

Burrow was 65% completion rate with 13 TDs to 5 INTs before he was injured his rookie year.  His team had no defense and no OL.  I feel we have a capable version of both.  I'm looking at the play of these rookie QBs and putting them on our roster.  Does rookie Burrow beat NYG and Cleveland for us?  Absolutely.  3-3 would be competitive vs 1-5 which is bottom of the league.  I'm saying we don't need a roster overhaul if we can land a decent rookie with our coach.  Our QB play has been so terrible it has crippled this team.  Just upgrading that alone can have us beating the bad teams.  Hell we beat the Saints with poo at the position.

Yeah the BIlls would crush us.  When I say we can be "competitive" next year that means we can beat the bad teams and hang with the average.  We still would have a way to go before going toe to toe with the Bills/Chiefs etc...

Our cap sucks next year but we have most of our young core locked in except Burns which could actually help next year's cap, but hurt the following years.  Put a rookie QB behind a solid young OL with a decent defense and you have a good start for the next HC IMO.

@mrcompletely11is liking your realistic view, but he himself has said our roster is 2 years away from the playoffs.  That would require some growth next year as well to get there.

We are one great draft and/or probably two solid drafts to getting our roster into the top 3rd of the nfl.   Thats assuming we get a competent qb in this draft.  We need a couple more starters and way more depth to be consistently good.   I dont think people realize how shallow we are at just about every position.

Whats our best position group and where would you rank them in the NFL?   Now do that for the next position group and you will see my point.

The same bad HC he made the Super Bowl with? The same team that won aS many without him?

And if competitive is losing by 2 possessions, I agree that they can probably achieve that.

I agree with all of that. All I said is if we get a decent QB and HC we can be competitive (which I explained means beat shitty teams and hang with average ones). Do you not agree?

It will take another year at least plus 24’s cap space to put our roster over the edge.

You have to factor in that it's gonna take time for a new coach to both implement his system and acquire the right players for it.

Mind you, if it's a really good system, results from other teams have shown that might not take as long as it used to.

Yup.  Elite QBs can carry bad HCs to the Super Bowl.  Look no further than Cam and Ron.

We only have had one team beat us by more than 2 possessions this year.  I just think Rhule was that bad of a coach that a new competent will show some growth.  I also think better QB play will come with a new OC/HC and top rookie than McAdoo and Baker/PJ.  Maybe you are higher on those guys than me.  That's your opinion though.

Adding players to teams would be assuming every team is getting better every year when we know that is not the case.  I think our same roster plus a new HC and QB will make us significantly better, which can jump us from bottom of the league to mid/low middle.

We will be more competitive for sure I just think we are still a ways out from being where we want to be.  Its going to take at least a year for the new coach (assuming we get a offensive young guy) and a new qb (assuming he starts some time in his rookie year) to get their sea legs.   And we still have to figure out the cap next year and replace some folks

edit to say:  On paper we should be more competitive but Tepper may fug up and hire the next Hackett

All true, but with that it can still be a much cleaner, competitive product that what we are seeing this year.  With our OL locked in, CMC, plus some young core defensive players we can expect a decent product once the new coach's system gets in place.  I mean hell if we can throw for a couple first downs in the first half we might have won some of these early games.

Having actual NFL coaches would be a really big step.

Competitive is all I'm saying.  Not playoffs, not Super Bowl just a team that can hang with your average teams and beat the bad ones.  It's definitely not out of the realm of possibilities next season.  Just need to land the right HC first then draft the right QB.

I guess we have to ask, if we are picking top 5ish (worst case scenario) which top 3ish qb is ready to come in to start day 1?  All 3?   Or are we going to have an andy dalton type qb starting the season for 6 weeks or so?

That’s fair, but a good coach with Dalton would produce a much better offense than what we are seeing now. I honestly think any of the big 3 can play sooner vs later. Young, Levis, and Stroud all have pro style offense and go through progressions pretty well.

I don’t think you know what a good HC is. If you think Taylor isn’t, good luck with this next search and the one 3 years from now.

Competitive means two different things to me and you. I’ll leave it at that.

Now that Mayfield and Corral looked pretty poor, those were both Rhule only.

Got the Mayfield part but there is no way you can for certainty say Corral is a bust or a bad pick.  Corral wasn't given one chance to play with NFL caliber players.  No one is going to convince me and many others that he got a fair shake.  Everyone knows he had limited reps in practice and two preseason games with 75% of the players not making ANY NFL roster.  I'm not going to hang a "Bust" label on him just yet and even if he is a bust, I wouldn't put it on Fitterer due to the Rhule's Absolute Power.

I’ll take a new GM that works great with the new coach. I don’t want to avoid a solid GM because poor Fitt was just doing what Rhule said to and Fitt wanted to draft Josh Allen too but Rhule overruled him.

You have no true evidence one way or the other how Fit worked with Rhule.  Tepper took any true power that Fitterer had when he gave Rhule the absolute power.

18 hours ago, stbugs said:

I just don’t want to keep Fitterer because he deserves a chance when he was very likely more responsible than his fans think.

This is purely opinion.  Fact is Rhule had more power than he ever should have. End of Story.

Anytime you bring in someone new you are risking getting worse.  Fitterer absolutely deserves another opportunity with this team.  He'll have a say in who the HC is going to be, and it will be someone he can work with.
