So you honestly don’t think a 1000 yard receiver, which btw was Sams best receiver in NY, and had chemistry with him AND our glorious ex coach was positive Sam was going to be the Franchise QB of the future, to lock Robbie up for basically Pennie’s on the dollar compared to other #1 receivers?  Now we both know Robbie isn’t that but I’m trying to put myself in their shoes at the time.  Year 1 was outstanding, so they locked him up, I get that.  Sucks it went to poo after that but if you can see the future please give me the winning lottery number, I swear I’ll split it with you

He was already under contract

he knows the cap well, which is odd about him hung up on anderson not lower the cap next year. whatever past that with the other stuff.

stbugs is good on cap stuff too.

If you think I’m wrong, Al him as well. I’m sure he will tell you the exact same thing. Once again, I never said it didn’t lower the cap. Simply stated that the team wasn’t under.  And proved it. You just want to feel better so believe what helps….

We are at the fork, I misunderstood you not saying it lower the cap. Then you brought in the players form left field and it got weird.

agree it lower 2023 and much more work is needed?

The effective cap space is what you need. 10M for picks. 7M for PS and IR, and in-season. Where are you going to improve with two high picks and a bunch of low picks and UDFAs While trying to find a LB, DE, DT, WR2-3, TE, C, and QB while trying to improve the worst team in the league.

Most teams aren’t going to have complete rosters. The hope is that our new coach can get the best out of our JAGs like the new coach is doing in NYG. Hopefully we draft a QB in the first which can immediately upgrade our offense from this poo show.
We need players like Brandon Smith, TMJ, Shi Smith, YGM, Tremble, Thomas etc to player better with a coach that can play them to their strengths. We obviously aren’t jumping from worst to first, but hopefully can get to be competitive again next year.

It's a one-year debacle.  As of now 2024 we are $101M in effective cap room.  As long as we get our rookie QB, TE and MLB in the draft, the rest can be signed for cheap.  Burns will get an extension sooner rather than later.

So when they restructure Moton and Moore(or anyone), where does that money come off of? When they Sign Burns with a 6M cap hit, where does all the rest go. Every player you spend money takes away from that 2024 total. Every year it we have plenty. It’s only this year. Wait for two years.

Burns, Brown and Chinn are the next ones up. Burns is the only one that gets done before the season though. I doubt Fitts restructures more than 1-2 players to get cap relief for next year.  Again, we are like #9 in cap room for 2024.  I'm not sweating it.  If Fitts can get like $25-$30 in cap relief for 2023, that's all we need.  Nobody is expecting us to go to the playoffs.  So zero splash signings in free agency.  With about 73% of the roster already on the books, most of them our starters and key pieces, we can round out the roster with team friendly deals for depth pieces.

Why do I get the feeling this is going to be similar with the Gettleman years? By that I mean half the fanbase will fawn over him, while completely ignoring blunders, or blame them on the coach.

So far, he's not shown he can evaluate quarterbacks, has made some exceptionally poor trades, and has certainly been poor at cap management. We're the worst team in the league, and this is with the man trying to trade the house for cheap wins. Him egregiously going after Deshaun Watson this off-season should give every fan pause.

The way he tried to hail Marry for Watson is enough for me not trust him. Do you really want a gambler? Because that's what the move for Watson was, betting the house on a man with entirely questionable moral character, that hasn't played the sport in what will be two years.

I wouldn't trust him, and I don't see how the owner could as well, unless they're really two peas in a pod.
