Roughing the Passer

The Burns call was a game changer week 1. The one against Ionnidas yesterday was a terrible call. And they missed the one on Ramsey. I guess the refs were to excited watching him dance. Officiating is terrible in every sport. Need robots.

It was somewhat satisfying to hear Pereira say after the call for Stafford “well that’s simply not roughing the passer, they got that wrong.”

At first, for sure.  But coaches won't tolerate the flags forever, players would learn that they couldn't play that way.

I think it is insane to expect a 250-300+ pound defender who is running at full speed to have to attempt to not squish a QB when they tackle them.  It's part of the game.  It's one thing to do it out of frustration but it's part of the game and QBs should not be excluded from good solid tackling.

Wow. Just saw the play in question. If you hit Brady like that your team would have to forfeit the game.

That's what I used to love when watching back on the 85 Bears, they made you pay for catching the ball. If you got their QB they'd pummel yours. Monsters.

You know when something is egregious or not and the hit on PJ wasn't.

It should be just football but these refs are influencing the outcomes of games with these call/no calls.

Evidenced in our playoff game against the 49ers at BofA. It was blatant. They cheated. I remember foaming at the mouth yelling at the TV in the first quarter when the 49ers had no hope of moving the ball. They were stifled. Then the refs helped them into the end zone with a series of calls. From then on if we showed aggression, "flag". 49ers realized early they had the refs.

The whole Superbowl year and before was all out hunting season on Cam Newton because they're not supposed to be HERE.

Don't get me wrong. The screw jobs didn't start when Cam got here. No no no. Us OG Panthers fans remember the screw jobs especially playing Dallas.

No, with Cam it was amplified more blatant to the point of "You're not old enough to get those calls". That declaration started the NFLs sick singular punishment of Cam Newton who like Cool Hand Luke (great movie), never let them win until.........

Panthers vs Broncos Superbowl. Cam was earholed, high lowed, speared with absolutely no call. Illegal batting of the ball, all rules were broken for Peyton and the Broncos, Panthers were the sacrificed.

I think roughing the passer should only be called if the hit is late, too low while the QB is in the pocket, helmet to helmet or if you can tell that the defender was obviously trying to drive him into the ground. Calling it because a defenders fingertips touched the QBs helmet or because he landed on him as just part of a routine tackle is ridiculous.
