I was on the tank bandwagon, but after looking more further, I say we just roll with Corral and draft BPA.

I want Corral to be great and hope that he will be, but on the basis of what we’ve seen from him so far, we cannot plan to roll with him.

...Corral was an afterthought under fhule... we still don't know what he has...but we know hes not durable...

I agree. But watching both play, i think stroud is the better prospect coming out. Stats aren’t THE reason, but i do think it does shows in the stats that he is better so i just chose to post that i guess.

Stroud is better from the pocket has the size, release, accuracy you want in a QB.  He also can run, just doesn't in his current system.  The only negative people have on him is the school is he playing for.  He was a top QB out of high school, so if he chose a different school to play for he would somehow be a better prospect??

Patrick Mahomes - Texas Tech

Josh Allen - Wyoming

Justin Herbert - post-Chip Kelly Oregon

Lamar Jackson - Louisville

Aaron Rodgers - Cal

Most of the best QBs in the NFL currently don't fit that model and really only one of the best young ones do. Burrow and Brady. Brady is 45. Lawrence could put himself in that conversation soon too.

I mean that's 4 out of the 5 best QBs in the NFL. And I wouldn't call any of those colleges except maybe Oregon a top-tier school.

Again, listing all the starters here:

Lamar - Louisville
Allen - Wyoming
Rodgers/Goff - Cal
Herbert - Oregon
Mahomes - Texas Tech
Baker/Murray - Oklahoma
Wilson - NC State/Wisconson
Mills - Stanford
Ryan - Boston College
Carr - Fresno st.

Tua/Mac/Hurts - Alabama
Wilson - BYU
Picket - Pitt
Tannehill - A&M
Mariotta - Oregon
Prescott - Miss St
Jones - Duke
Geno - WVU
Garrapolo - East Illinios or something like that
Brady - Michigan
Wentz/Lance - NDU
Cousins - Mich St.
Winston - FSU
Dalton - TCU
Burrow - LSU

Bolded are what I would consider a mid-tier program. I'm sure I'm missing some, but I would say the top 4 or 5 come from that mid-tier group imo. But it's just my opinion - not here to fight about it. On the whole I think college football is a mostly boring product until you get to those upper echelon teams facing each other.

Oregon has consistently been in the PAC 12 championship hunt since Kelly outside of 3 bad years with 3 different coaches. Mariota went to the BCS title game 2 years after Kelly and finished 5th with Herbert. They’ve had some disappointing losses by Thibodeaux and Sewell and Herbert were among their talented teams.

Again, Cal isn’t a powerhouse but they were literally 6 points away from USC and a national title game with Rodgers. Tedford had some decent teams. Marshawn Lynch was at Cal with Rodgers. Remember Kyle Boller 😂 right before Rodgers? Still can’t believe he was a 1st rounder.

Hurts, Murray and Tua also fall just outside that “top NFL QB” bucket. I’m assuming Tua will come back, who knows.

You also have Deshaun Watson, without his massage problems, was a top QB and it will be interesting to see if he gets back there. Oh, and Mack Jones according to delusional NE fans 😂.

I also would have put Wilson as a top QB in the top tier group as Wisconsin was a top tier team when he was there. He, however, seems to suck this year.

The Pac-12 is basically irrelevant. Being in the hunt for the Pac-12 championship just doesn't really matter. UNC is in the driver's seat to win the Coastal division of the ACC this year. I'm not about to argue that we're a powerhouse. The reality is that currently Clemson is the only ACC program with national relevance. I don't think the Pac-12 actually has that team currently though it would be easy to see USC getting back there.

A mid-level team rising to relevance with a particular QB is an argument for that QB, not the mid-tier program.

Fully in agreement with this.

Yeah, that path to NFL success is very nuanced for QB prospects. Lots of factors to account for. That is why it is so difficult

With a new coach coming in, Corral is likely on the outs. Especially if that coach is a guy like Payton or Harbaugh who will definitely want their own guy at QB right off the bat.

100%.  I hate it for the kid but rhule fuged him.  In another world he would be starting on Sunday.   Corral may make an impact in the nfl but it’s not going to be in Charlotte

Evaluating NFL prospects is never going to be an exact science. You can never precisely tell how a guy is going to translate to a higher level of competition, especially when you're also going to make him a multi-millionaire overnight at the same time. This NIH stuff might actually help to eliminate some of the guys  who will get derailed by the instant riches because big time college QBs are gonna be making some real money now. Not NFL money but these kids are gonna have plenty of money to fug up. But yeah, it's always going to be imperfect. There's always gonna be steals and busts.
