It’s time to do this the right way

The cupboards aren’t bare…yet.

We aren’t 5 years away from competing…yet.

This team is on a razors edge. Do it the right way and we can be competing in 2-3 years. Do it the wrong way and we’re going to be having this same conversation in 3 years.

1. Trade Mccaffrey. Offer to pay the rest of his salary this year and try to get a late 2nd rounder from a contender. At the very least a 3rd rounder.

2. Make sure Wilks knows we need to evaluate our WHOLE roster in game time situations. We need to give our next HC as much film to go off as possible for all of our players. It sucks Wilks has been dealt this shitty hand, but find some other way to evaluate him as a HC besides his W/L record this year.

3. Be VERY cautious with Baker and Darnold's injuries (and for that matter any other injuries). PJ can start as long as possible.

4. Hopefully with this approach and just being a bad team in the first place, we are bad enough to get the #1 draft pick, while also trying to win with the players we have on the field. I don't agree with asking coaches and players to try to lose, but there are ways to essentially tank without doing that and while also getting some productive things done this year in looking towards the future.

5. Have a coach specifically dedicated to Matt Corral and his development, rehab, etc. if you don't already. Time to reach into those pockets Tepper. Corral looked lost in the little we got to see of him, we need to know if he can do this pretty quickly next season. He should be getting fed from a fire hose mentally all season, and when he's ready physically you should have a juco team or something on payroll just to get him practice reps in a pro style offense.

6. Time to reach into those pockets even more, Tepper. Our scouting department should be the highest paid in the NFL this year. They need to be burning the candle at both ends during this crucial time, and we need to make sure we have the absolute best scouts we can possibly have right now, especially for QBs. Bring in special consultants if you have to. Heck, have Macadoo start looking at the QBs in next years draft if you value his opinion. It’s more important than what he is doing on Sundays.

7. Hire the right HC. It can be a defensive guy, but he sure as hell better be able to wow you with the caliber of OC and QB coach he is bringing with him, and you better be damn sure that he’ll keep that caliber of offensive mind on staff if those ones leave for HC gigs.

8. If we get the #1 overall and we’ve done our homework, use the opportunity to get our QB of the future on a team friendly contract for the next 5 years. This will be our best time to re-sign other young and productive players like Burns, Chinn, etc. This will be our best opportunity to become a consistently competitive team while we have a young stud QB on a rookie deal. Let him and Corral compete. Let Corral start the season next year. DO NOT spend #1 on a QB and put him out there until we have an OL that can consistently protect him AND he is good enough diagnosing blitzes and calling his protections at the LOS.

9. Draft OL until you think we don’t need any more OL, then draft more. Get the best center in next year’s draft to go with our young QBs. We should be able to get that at the top or end of the second round (with the pick we get for Mccaffrey in this hypothetical).

10. Win.

I dont think any of that matters, except - WIN.  I'm not looking forward to a "next head coach," just as Wilks said, I'm thinking about right now, and how do we win right now, and everything after that will take care of itself.  I think Wilks could really earn this job, and I would love that.  I think he deserves it as well...  and what an awesome story that would be...

Outside of scheme-related stuff that had to be changed, the biggest issue this team had under Rhule was they lacked direction snd just didn't compete for a full 60 mins.  I really think Wilks can pull that competitiveness back out of them.  He already stated that everybody here had an opportunity, snd that is going to bring out the dog in a lot of guys.  I'm excited for the first time in a long time.

Keep trying I’m sure you’ll get it eventually. Reading is a skill worth developing.

Maybe you should edit "1. Trade Mccaffrey. Offer to pay the rest of his salary this year and try to get a late 2nd rounder from a contender. At the very least a 3rd rounder."

That's looney to even think about trading CMC while eating some of the salary for 'at the very least' a 3rd rounder. Taking on his cap hit for a 3rd round pick is not a move you make when the player is still one of the best skill players in football.

I agree with most of the rest, but I disagree with parts of #8.

If you draft a QB in the top 10 in 2023, you absolutely throw him out there if you think he's the guy. He'll either prove he is and the difference will show up in the win/loss column because we have a defense to pair with him. OR - he shows he isn't ready and you draft one of Drake Maye, Caleb Williams, or Quinn Ewers in 2024 to compete with him. You'll find your franchise QB taking this route and you can flip the loser of the battle for picks or keep him as a backup.

We don’t need to win, we need to lose so we can get a top pick. Imagine if we get a top pick and can get Will Anderson to pair with Burns?

I do agree that we need to see what we have on our roster. Let the rookies and other young talent play. Don’t give the vets who will be gone in a year playing time. Let’s see if we have any good players hidden in the depth chart.

cmc may be our best player but sadly I don’t think we can get much for him because he’s a running back, he has a big contract and he has a injury history.

Burns, Moton, Moore, Horn and Icky are our most valuable players. I wouldn’t want to trade any of them.

Shaq Thompson, d Jax and Robby Anderson are our most valuable vets and we would be lucky to get mid round picks for roby, maybe a 2nd or 3rd for Shaq and D Jax

If you really want to lure a great head coach, trading away some of our best assets isn't the way to do it.

If I were a potential head coach, I’d find it much more attractive to have the #1 pick if I think there’s a QB there that’s worth it, than a star RB on his 7th year who has missed at least 23 games the past 3 seasons due to injury (could be more by end of this season who knows). I love Mccaffrey, but he’s the one piece I look at that has some trade value that I question what he’ll have left in the tank in 2-3 years.

I'd let the new coach make that decision himself.

    • My issue too is form Icky to Hunt you would have had young studs under contract control for the next 3 years, unreal if you have that on a NFL team.
    • I maybe huffin the hopuim too much for the defense during 2 games winning.   If DJ played like that each game(??), DBrown, Turlte, ARob(who's been like Dbrown), clowny   That's a solid front 5, or is it too much homer huffin??   Then Jewell and Shaq   Again solid, not trash or elite.   Horn(heathly) Mike Jackson. Dane Jackson, Woods, and Fuller   I swear the "solid" enough feels are here again   Of course Id love to drop a elite edge and have DJ come off the bench or another stud CB, but I swear if that group was 100% healthy I feel they'd be around 18th best. (yes still need a true NT).  Please correct me.
    • You are probably right, but as long as he goes to Dallas, and not here, it will be fun to watch.  Or better yet, New Orleans.
