How could we not give Fitt another chance?!?

Just 3 weeks ago, you were guaranteeing all of us that Rhule was going to take the Panthers to the playoffs.

I didn't guarantee anything.  Everyone made predictions, many were better than what we've witnessed.   On the season prediction thread,  I even said my prediction was homer goggled.

I did predict we would start Mayfield day 1 tho.

You act like you're some kind of psychic, comes off as arrogant.

Have you noticed that a pretty heavy portion of your argument is based on the idea that Scott Fitterer must be blamed for anything his bosses do wrong?

Are you also going to try and tie him to the contract Tepper gave Rhule?

No just the work he did here. You keep blaming all Rhule when he definitely had a hand in this mess to some degree and he also willingly signed up for it. You act like he is the victim which would just mean he was an idiot for taking the job and his experience would then come into question.

Your argument lays zero blame at his feet and I say he was involved to an unknown degree but he also signed up for it. I'm not the one playing absolutes here Scott.

Boy is that last line ironic 😆

Let's just say it's going to be a while before too many people are going to take you seriously, and if you've seen some of your recent call outs you know I'm not the only person saying that.

Actually, my argument says that it's pretty dumb to fire him when he didn't have full power, especially given the perception that would create for an owner who's already got a negative reputation.

Outside of what Person confirmed on the quarterback side, I haven't made any statement about how much blame goes where.

And my argument is that it is pretty dumb to give him a job he was never hired or trained to have full power as a GM. The concern about optics is fair I just think you are overblowing it...if Tepper has help because I don't see how he doesn't fug that up after seeing his presser yesterday.

You haven't directly but by blaming only Rhule and not assigning any blame, even the unknown I acknowledged, to Fritts while giving him a free pass of all of the BS then you are in fact doing it implicitly though I am not sure if that was intentional or not.

Twenty plus years of scouting experience doesn't qualify someone to be a GM?

Dan Morgan's only got half of that, and he signed on to the same situation as Fitterer.

In order for your argument to stay consistent, you would have to also judge that Dan Morgan isn't qualified for a GM job either.

Are you willing to make that statement?

I like Fitt and no matter who he brought in or traded for they were destined to look like busts under this coaching staff. The coaches job is to COACH and put players in a position to be impactful. No team in the NFL has a top 5 or even 10 guy at every position. At the end of the day the coaches job is to coach the players. We have the worst coaching staff in the NFL. Our players (even the good ones) have regressed because of it. Not because of the GM because of the coaches coaching them. Let's use our brains..

With that being said we need a COMPLETE over haul of the entire organization. We saw what happened last time we did a half ass rebuild. Tear it all down trade away some vets for picks and let our new coach have all the ammo he needs to build a competent team and staff

I asked a few weeks ago why Morgan is so well regarded here and seemingly other places?  What has he done?  The only thing I could find in articles was that he is a hard worker.  Which seems like code for something else

I would say Fitt has been the GM and we really haven't "won" any of his trades.  That could be more than enough reason to let him go despite experience.  I'm not saying Morgan is the guy, but he is still a question mark and we may feel we already know what we have in Fitt and it hasn't been anything great.

John Ellis really really likes Morgan.  Compared him to billy beane.  I sent him a twitter message asking why and he has yet to respond.  I am not saying Morgan is good or bad just trying to figure out where this allure is coming from

I don't think that's an accurate statement.

2022 5-7 rounders - all but one made the roster. DE Amaré Barno was cut, but is now on the Dolphins practice squad.

2021 5-7 rounders - all but one made the roster in their rookie year. LS Thomas Fletcher was placed on IR.

Sight correction- Barns late 7th is on the Phins PS, not Barno. *Plus guess what team Barns played for......a little surprised he jumped ship...

The NFL has evolved when it comes to 5-7 round "steals". Just not as many as say 10 years ago. Scouting on the weak teams has much improved. Lots of teams only have 110-140 draft grades come draft week. Most years 250ish players are picked. Starting mid-5th nearly everyones board is empty.

I know hes hasnt "broke" out but Shi Smith looks about as good as you could hope in that 5-7 group.......

Finally In the short time os GM, finesserere drafted MUCH better in the late than Smarty Marty....

His time in Seattle was less than stellar and again we went looking there because they ran their team the same way they wanted to here where the HC is in charge. The better candidates bowed out of that process. We got the guy helping sink the ship that was a powerhouse before he was promoted from scout. It qualifies him to be a yes man GM for sure and he did that. Does it qualify him to proceed in a manor he hasn't operated amongst in more than a decade?

Morgan has a ways to go before he is a top tier candidate IMO. He isn't ready yet and the fact he left the Bills to come here shows that to be true. It's like the opposite of what Bean did lol. Would I take him over Friterer? I was leaning that way and now I have serious reservations about both but like I said I am happy to watch them go earn it the rest of the season but they shouldn't be given a damn thing at this point.

It will be interesting to see how much interest Morgan gets as a GM after this year. I want to like Morgan and do see skills but I keep thinking his time at GM will be like his time as a restaurant owner. With GMs like Hurney and Keim it can always be worse I guess.

    • Easily. To be able to plug in a backup LT without much drop off from your starter? That could mean the difference between playoffs or sitting at home in January. Good/serviceable smart young and healthy LTs that won’t lose you a ball game at reasonable $$ don’t just come along every day. Everyone talks about the most important positions on a football team… backup LT is in the top 10.  Picture next year… the team is scrappy and competitive, 4 and 3 record, second place in the South. Morale is good. devastating run game that Let’s our marginal defense get plenty of rest. We play the Bucs and win, going to 5 and 3, but we lose Ickey to a high ankle sprain. Atl loses that week and are now at 5 and 3 as well. There is no Ickey and no BC because we let him go… and we go in to Atl the next week for a battle of first in the south. Week after that is the Jets…. Now they lose both by 10 and 3, respectively, and fall to 5 and 5 going in to their bye week. Atl is at 7 and 3. Out of typical Panthers desperation, they try to rush Ickey back in to the lineup with a saints game coming up…  Back to good old Panthers football, always playing catchup. Another season at .500 and the fans sadly rejoice in mediocrity, when playoffs were in reach. This team always overestimates its ability to pick up quality o line depth in the draft or FA and it always blows up in their faces. Like Chuba, I see him as being part of the core that Dan is trying to build. Work on his contract now and see if we can come out with something mutually beneficial. I’d consider 3 yrs at $25m to be very fair.
    • it would be great to have "double trouble" again, I even had a T- shirt for Williams and Stewart and the double trouble logo, was a great time to be Panthers fan. We shall see...
    • Sounds like a plan. Those are the teams we should be mimicking! lol
