Brandon Marshall (or Anquan Boldin) and Daniel Manning

top dawg

If I were part of the Panthers FO, I would make it a priority to try and acquire Brandon Marshall next year, or Anquan Boldin if he becomes available. Marshall, in particular, would be one of the missing pieces to our dynamic offense that is destined for years to come (provided we get a pure pocket passer with a hint if mobility). I also am intrigued by Boldin, though he has more of an injury history. Moreover, I would try and sign Bears' FS, Daniel Manning, to be our return man. Now, I don't know if this is even feasible, but I would do my best to restructure some contracts, trade, and outright cuts (of which Godfrey would probably be a part) to get this talent in here.

BTW, I was unceremoniously shot down when I brought up the idea of Robert Meachem a few weeks back, but Meachem has done nothing but catch balls and score for the last several weeks. More than likely he will stay with the Saints (and I don't believe his contract is up until 2011), but he may be acquired on fairly cheaply depending on the situation. Just looking ahead.

I absolutely agree. We've got to keep Smitty happy, and a great way to do that is to get the damn pressure OFF him. We need another good WR, and Dwayne Jarret is obviously a bust and Moose is too old and slow. For the love of God, we need another WR to line up and help Smitty.

The Panthers just don't go hard in free agency for WR's. Marshall would be a great pickup, IMO, but his problems off the field and his loud mouth are cause for concern. The Panthers FO absolutely hates those types and I don't blame them. He'd be a risk.

Lets remember that even mediocre WR's look amazing when they have a fantastic QB throwing to them. The Saints have proven that. You put any of the Saints WR's (besides Colston) on another team, and they wouldn't be half as successful as they are right now. The Panthers have absolutely lost their QB.

Jesus, everyone keeps saying how Moose is too old and slow yet he continues to make catches and plays when they are needed (as long as the ball is catchable, ya know?).

Moose is still a very good player as a decent QB will show. (Go Matt!)

Having a speedster along with Smith would open up the running game even more. Those guys don't come cheap so some serious decisions and a little magic will have to take place.

i doubt marshall and boldin become available next year.

marshall is a freak talent and maybe about the best there is right now. he's a big baby but still incredibly talented. it looks like mckid has a stiffy for marshall right now. called him a "beast". marshall won't be going anywhere.

boldin will only become available through a trade. he's got 1 year and $3mil left on his contract. that would be an easy one to pick up. the problem is going to be that he is very talented as well and the cards really don't have any incentive to get rid of him other than boldin whining about getting out again. i seriously doubt that the cards will give him a new contract.

they have a bit more than $63mil obligated next year and at least 22 players that will be free agents next year. some are ERFAs and RFAs and others they are going to want to keep. guys like, bert berry (OLB), steve breaston (WR), karlos dansby (ILB), mike gandy (LT), Taitusi Lutui (RG), Chike Okeafor (OLB), neil rackers (PK), both guys that play center, all three of their TEs are going to be FAs of one kind or another, Jerheme Urban (WR), gabe watson (DT/NT). plus, hightower only has one year left on his contrract and he's only going to be making $470k on it...seeing as how he's the best RB they have, they are going to want to keep him around.

the cards have too many concerns to mess around with him next year. next year he'll either suck it up and play out his contract hoping for another team the following year, sit and/or get traded. they've shown they can get by without him and they could use that money other places. some team with high picks to offer will get him. could be that they are looking to move him before the 2010 draft in which case we are probably out of luck.

oh yeah...danieal manning....i would love to have him on the team. he's better than any returner we have and not a bad DB either. i'd like him as a backup FS more than godfrey. (that is assuming that sherrod martin has the FS starting gig)

Meachem is catching balls because Brees is playing out of his mind right now. He is making throws that those WR's can't miss.

Brees is the poo....

A. I would love Vincent Jackson but Chargers won't let go of him. Marshall is out of the question, haha the Broncos would have to be crazy to let him walk and the Panthers don't have enough to offer a deal.... unless peppers could be persuaded to sign a deal. Anyways I don't think the Big Cat would like Marshall anyway. Boldin maybe the most realistic, but its still doubtful. What the Panthers need is a Colston, a late round steal that becomes a stud. Furthermore wr is a null and void issue until we get a quarterback!!! That has to be issue number one, then wide receiver.
